Will Byers (+194) is a likely candidate to die in Stranger Things Season 5. However, Polymarket lists Will’s brother, Jonathan (+156), with the lowest odds of dying.
Like most of the Hawkins’ crew, Jonathan has had his fair share of battles with the creatures from the Upside Down, including run-ins with multiple Demogorgons.
At the end of Season 5, Volume 1, Jonathan is stuck in the Upside Down with Nancy, Steve, and Dustin. Before that trip, Jonathan was seen holding an engagement ring, implying he plans to propose to Nancy at some point. Are the Duffer Brothers willing to end a marriage before it happens?
Sticking with the Byers’ clan, Will’s death makes all the sense in the world. Will is on borrowed time, considering he spent the majority of Season 1 as a prisoner in the Upside Down.
At the end of Season 5, Volume 1, Will unlocked his psychic abilities to defeat a group of Demogorgons. Will and Vecna will likely have another showdown, which increases his chances of dying.
Other Stranger Things Characters in the Mix to Die
Eleven (+245) and Hopper (+257) have flirted with death throughout the entire series. Eleven was believed to have died in Season 1, only to survive in the Upside Down. Eleven is the most powerful member of the Hawkins gang, making her a target of Vecna.
How many times is Hopper going to try to sacrifice himself? The Hawkins police chief has escaped death multiple times, most recently in Season 5, Episode 4. Hopper wired himself with a suicide vest to destroy the military lab in the Upside Down. However, he decided not to set off the explosives once he discovered Kali, Eleven’s sister, was being held prisoner. Frankly, Hopper’s death is long overdue.
One character who previously died but came back to life is Max Mayfield (+614). Max is currently stuck in Vecna’s memories with Holly Wheeler, while her body remains in a coma. Would the Duffers bring back Max from the dead only to kill her later on? Probably not.
