Aiding the Los Angeles Rams’ NFL playoff-clinching victory over the Detroit Lions last Sunday, wide receiver Puka Nacua recovered from an injury to compile several big plays.
The Pro Bowler hauled in nine of 11 targets for 181 yards, surpassing the 100-reception mark for the second time in three seasons. With 102 catches this season, he’s three shy of matching his career-best mark in 2023.
“He’s unbelievable,” Rams coach Sean McVay said during his post-game press conference, via SI.com. “The guy just produces. He’s so tough.
“He epitomizes everything that we want to be about as do many of our players do. He’s like Pac-Man. He just eats up yards and catches. He is so tough. He’s special. He’s a special competitor and a special player. He loves the game. Our players, they love playing together. They love enjoying these challenges and Thursday represents another one and we got to be ready to go.
“He’s a stud.”
With wide receiver Davante Adams also suffering an injury against the Lions, Nacua may have a bigger role as the Rams vie for the NFC’s top seed.
Led by NFL MVP favorite Matthew Stafford, the Rams (+340) remain the sports-betting favorite to capture Super Bowl LX, according to BetOnline Sportsbook.
Nacua’s work on fourth down impressed Stafford.
“They were trying to show me man coverage and then popped out into a Tampa two prevent quick defense and Puka did a nice job settling in the hole there,” Stafford said. “I tried to put it on him, and he did a great job falling forward. The next one, (they) showed us the man look, stayed man and Puka did a nice job going in and then catching it at the catch point.”
