Continuing the tennis baby boom among retired WTA legends, Grand Slam champions Ash Barty and Angie Kerber have recently given birth to their second children.

Over the weekend, Barty, 29, announced the birth of her daughter Jordan with husband Garry Kissick.  Barty and Kissick have a son named Hayden born in July 2023.  Ash Barty walked away from tennis at her peak after winning the 2022 Australian Open.

She has never expressed any regret for leaving the sport when she did as the reigning World No. 1. Ash Barty always believed she accomplished everything she wanted to with 15 WTA singles titles including three Grand Slams, 12 doubles titles including one Grand Slam, and a mixed doubles Olympic bronze medal in 2020. She was ready to move on to a different phase of her life.  Barty was seen on court at an exhibition prior to this year’s Australian Open along with Pat Rafter.  A problem with the 2025 Charleston Open website listing Barty as a player gave fans false hope.  She has also done broadcasting work since retiring.

Angie Kerber, 37, recently gave birth to a son named Ben with husband Franco Bianco.  Ben joins big sister Liana born in February 2023.  Kerber made a comeback in 2024 but retired for good after the 2024 Paris Olympics. Kerber is a former World No. 1 who won 14 WTA titles including three Grand Slams.  She is a silver medalist in singles from the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Kerber is the tournament director of the upcoming WTA 500 Bad Homburg Open beginning on June 21. It is unclear if she will be on-site at this year’s event.  The German native previously served as an ambassador for this event.  Kerber had an affinity for grass going 1-1 in Wimbledon finals (2016 and 2018), both against another Grand Slam champion and tennis mom of two, Serena Williams.

Congratulations to Ash Barty and Angie Kerber who are both missed on court but are enjoying retirement and motherhood.
