Rory McIlroy during the second round of the 2023 Travelers Championship

The entire world was watching the 2025 Masters golf tournament on Sunday. There was a collective cheer when Rory McIlroy won his first Masters and completed the legendary golf grand slam, a feat accomplished by only five players besides McIlroy, with Tiger Woods the most recent in 2000.

There are a lot of parallels between tennis and golf. Both are sports that require a unique balance of individual effort and teamwork.  Tennis players tend to enjoy golf while not training, and golfers are known to frequent tennis tournaments during their downtime.

That’s why it was not surprising to see tennis players be among the first to congratulate Rory McIlroy on his win.  The first was Rafael Nadal, who knows a thing or two about completing a career Grand Slam.

Another was avid golfer Casper Ruud, who likes to spend his free time off the tennis court on the links and recently talked at Indian Wells about getting some golf in his schedule while in California.

Tennis Players In Attendance At The Masters

Grand Slam champions and former World No. 1 players Roger Federer and Caroline Wozniacki were both at the Masters over the weekend.  Both Federer and Wozniacki are Rolex brand ambassadors, and Rolex has been involved with the Masters since 1999.

Caroline Wozniacki was previously engaged to McIlory; their public relationship ended in 2014.

McIlroy and Alcaraz Give Nike A Good Day

Aside from McIlroy, Nike emerged as a big winner of the day in another intersection between golf and tennis.  Two of Nike’s top stars won tournaments on Sunday for the first time in their careers.  Rory McIlroy won the Masters, and Carlos Alcaraz won the Monte-Carlo Masters.
