Lowest Scoring Super Bowl

As anticipation builds ahead of this year’s NFL finale, we’re looking back at the lowest-scoring Super Bowl ever – and hoping this year’s game won’t break that unwanted record.

Super Bowl weekend is right around the corner, and it’s set to once again be one of the year’s biggest sporting events.

The Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are going for a historic three-peat, aiming to become the first team in history to win three consecutive Super Bowl titles.

Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts will be hoping to avenge the Eagles’ 38-35 defeat at Super Bowl LVII in 2022.

Both teams qualified for this year’s game last weekend. The Eagles beat the Washington Commanders 55-23, while the Chiefs edged out the Buffalo Bills 32-29.

With two high-scoring games in the AFC and NFC Championship deciders, fans will be hoping the final game of the season lives up to those before it.

However, the pressure of the Super Bowl can sometimes create low-scoring and nervous matchups.

But which was the lowest-scoring Super Bowl of all time?

The Lowest Scoring Super Bowl Ever

In a disappointing anti-climax, the lowest-scoring Super Bowl ever happened just seven years ago.

Super Bowl LIII in 2019 saw Tom Brady’s New England Patriots take on the Los Angeles Rams in Atlanta, Georgia.

The much-favoured Pats were expected to turn it on against the Rams and run up a big score. But things quickly panned out differently.

After a scoreless first quarter, fans were hoping the game would burst into life.

But as halftime loomed, the only points on the board were from a Patriots field goal.

Maroon 5 put on the halftime show, featuring Travis Scott and Big Boi, in what was by far the most entertaining portion of the night.

The Rams had not appeared at the Super Bowl since 2001, where they lost 20-17 to the Patriots.

And it wasn’t until the end of the third quarter that they finally got on the board.

A field goal tied up the game at 3-3 heading into the fourth quarter. With the game looking like there may never be a touchdown, the Patriots finally made it into the endzone seven minutes into the last period.

The final points of the game then came from a 40-yard Patriots field goal in the closing minutes.

That brought the end to a game that completely failed to live up to the hype, and marked the lowest-scoring Super Bowl ever.
