The road to recovery just got much harder for Tiger Woods. The world’s most famous golfer has suffered an Achilles injury. How much time will Woods miss?
Tiger Woods Announces Achilles Injury
Woods announced on social media that he injured his left Achilles.
“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods wrote in a statement posted to X.
The fifteen-time major winner underwent surgery for a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon on Tuesday morning. Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach oversaw the surgery.
“The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,” added Dr. Stucken.
Woods added, “I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support.”
There is no timetable for Woods’ return to the PGA Tour.
The only gold Woods has played this season is in the TGL, the indoor league he started with Rory McIlroy and Mike McCarley.
Woods played for Jupiter Links Golf Club alongside Max Homa, Kevin Kisner, and Tom Kim. Jupiter missed the playoffs after a 1-4 regular season.
Woods last played in the TGL on March 4.
When Did Tiger Woods Last Play On The PGA Tour?
Woods’ last PGA Tour event came at July’s Open Championship. Woods missed the cut after a two-round score of +6.
Woods, 49, only played in five 2024 events: Genesis Invitational, Masters, U.S. Open, PGA Championship, and Open Championship.
Woods made the cut at the Masters for the 24th consecutive time, breaking the record of 23 he shared with Gary Player and Fred Couples.
After the Open Championship, Woods underwent back surgery for nerve impingement.
Woods planned to enter the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines in February. However, he later withdrew from the field following the death of his mother, Kultida Woods, on Feb. 4.
