Tiger Woods‘s mother, Kultilda Woods, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the age of 78.  No cause of death was provided when Tiger shared the news on social media.

Woods’s father, Earl Woods, died in 2006 from prostate cancer.  He is often credited with helping Tiger achieve success at a young age. Tiger took every opportunity possible to give “Tilda” her due, calling her a “force of nature.”  He often became emotional when talking about her.

How Kultilda Woods Shaped Tiger Woods’s Career

When the family took out a second mortgage to support 14-year-old Tiger’s golfing career, Earl worked and traveled to earn money. Kultilda, a native of Thailand, stayed at home and drove him to all of his events as a typical sports mom.  She was no pushover and held him to a high standard. Tiger called her “tough” and said he was more afraid of her than his father, who worked in special forces.

She was also responsible for Tiger wearing red on Sundays, calling it a power color. Early in his career, he occasionally wore blue in tournaments’ final rounds with some success. Eventually, he leaned into her advice after an extended winning streak wearing his trademark red.

Kultida was a constant source of support for Tiger and was recently spotted at his TGL event.

Tiger is slated to host the Genesis Invitational, at Torrey Pines beginning on February 10.  Before this, it was not clear if he would play in the event.  Given the circumstances, his participation in any part of it could be subject to change.
