Toronto Raptors Could Create A Superteam Around Kevin Durant, Ja Morant Trades

The Toronto Raptors are reportedly going to be one of the most active teams during the 2025 offseason. Toronto has already been linked to several stars, including Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, and Ja Morant. Marc Stein also reported that the Raptors are expected to part ways with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Raptors Rumors Of Trading For Durant Are Becoming A Reality

While Giannis Antetokounmpo is suddenly expected to stay in Milwaukee, Durant is on the move and Morant could become available following the recent Desmond Bane trade. The Raptors are among the favorites to land Durant and sit atop the odds board to acquire Morant.

Interestingly, Toronto has enough assets and draft capital to potentially pull off both deals without giving up Scottie Barnes or Gradey Dick. Next year is also the final year of team president Masai Ujiri’s contract, which could incentivize him to take along big swing at bringing the Larry O’Brien trophy back to Canada.

Longtime Arizona radio host John Gambadoro reported that a combination of RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, Jakob Poeltl, and the No. 9 overall pick were offered in exchange for Durant.

Could The Raptors Still Afford To Acquire Morant From Memphis?

If that’s enough to get the conversation started, it’d make sense for the Raptors to add another star in a win-now move and Morant would be a good place to start. Toronto will likely be able to keep one of the players in the Durant deal, which they could flip into a package to acquire Morant or another star.

Memphis is looking to build around Jaren Jackson Jr. and Morant has been nothing short of a PR disaster over the past few seasons. Both sides could benefit from a fresh start and the Grizzlies could still get enough talent back from Toronto to avoid an all-out rebuild.

This would be a risky buy-low opportunity for Toronto but one that could pay off handsomely if Morant returns to his All-Star form.

A combination of Immanuel Quickley, Brandon Ingram, Ochai Agbaji and future draft capital could be enough to sway Memphis, who just acquired the rights to four first-round picks in exchange for Bane. Toronto still has its own first-round picks from 2026-2032 and several teams might value those highly if this experiment fails to work or Durant turns out to be a one-year rental.

But, much like the Kawhi Leonard deal, Toronto might be willing to make the sacrifice if it brings the Raptors one step closer to an NBA Title. With Jayson Tatum out for the season, the Eastern Conference is wide open. Adding Durant and Morant to a core that still features Scottie Barnes and Gradey Dick could be enough to make the Raptors a potential contender in the East.
