The footrace between Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was a long time in the making. The two traded barbs through the media for well over a year, and a head-to-head battle was finally agreed upon a few months back. But it seems as though we’ll never know which athlete is the fastest, as it was announced on Tuesday that Lyles had pulled out of the competition due to “personal reasons.”
That didn’t stop Hill from continuing his trash talk on social media.
Tyreek Hill Pokes Fun At Noah Lyles After Race Gets Cancelled
Within a few minutes of Lyles’ decision, the 31-year-old Hill took to Twitter/X. He posted the meme of Homer Simpson retreating into the bushes, but with a cutout of Noah Lyles’ face as the subject instead. In the caption, he tagged his would-be opponent, and suggested that the decision was made based on the results of a 100-meter dash that took place last weekend.

While in Sherman Oaks, California last Friday, Tyreek Hill participated in the Last Chance Sprint Series, more specifically in the 100-meter competition. While running in the preliminaries, Hill clocked a personal best time in the event of 10.15 seconds, which was 1.2 seconds faster than any of the sprinters on the track with him. After the race, he held up a sign that read the following: “Noah Could Never”.
It was an impressive showing, especially given the advancing age of the football star, and one that Hill believes had a hand in Lyles canceling the long-awaited showdown.

Noah Lyles, of course, defended his own position. He claimed that the decision was made solely based on personal reasons, and that he was excited at the prospect of the now-cancelled race. When speaking to the press on Tuesday, the Olympian had the following comments:
“We were very deep into creating the event. In fact, it was supposed to happen this weekend. Unfortunately, there were some things, complications, personal reasons that it just didn’t come to pass, but we were full on. We were going to shut down New York’s Times Square and everything, it was going to be a lot of fun.”
Lyles was heavily favored over Hill for the event. He has not run slower than 10.15 seconds in the 100-meter since 2022. His gold medal-winning mark was 9.79 seconds at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Tyreek Hill has endured an offseason full of question marks. But after his controversial comments after the season-finale in 2024, it appears that he is fully committed to playing and producing for the Miami Dolphins this upcoming NFL season.
