United States Set To Host 2 World Cups, 2 Olympics Over Next 9 Years

FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced on Thursday that the United States had been selected as the host country for the 2031 Women’s World Cup, joining the UK, who will play host in 2035. It will be the first time that the UK has played host to the event, but the third for the US, who now have a group of major events taking place on their soil over the next nine years.
United States To Host Big Events Over The Next Decade
During the summer of 2026, the World Cup will return to North America. The trio of the United States, Mexico, and Canada will all host the world’s most popular sporting event next year, with a majority of the locations being set in the US. It will be the first time since 1994 that the World Cup is played on American grounds, and just the second time overall.
US cities like Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, and Philadelphia will host games at already-established venues, while the Cup final will be played in Miami.
Major global sporting events coming to the United States include:
2025: FIFA Club World Cup
2026: FIFA Men’s World Cup
2028: Summer Olympics
2031: Men’s Rugby World Cup
2031: FIFA Women’s World Cup

Two years after that, the Summer Olympics will come to the United States. The event specifically will be held in Los Angeles, with 36 sports expected to have competition. It will be the first time that the US has hosted the summer version of the event since the 1994 Atlanta games, and the first Olympics of any kind since the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
Then will come the Women’s World Cup in 2031.
That won’t be the end of the impressive string of events, though. Just last year, the IOC selected Salt Lake City to once again be the host of the Winter Olympics, this time in 2034. It will be the fifth time that the United States will be a host for the Winter Games, and the 10th overall.
The US will also play host to the men’s and women’s Rugby World Cups in 2031 and 2033.
