US Open Women’s Doubles: Townsend And Siniakova And Williams And Fernandez Advance To 3rd Round

The 2025 US Open women’s doubles competition is heating up.

Top seeds Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova have not dropped a set in their two matches. The pair await the winner of the Anna Blinkova and Magdalena Frech vs. Camila Osorio and Yue Yuan match.

Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova

Townsend and Siniakova had not played together since Wimbledon.

Taylor Townsend won the 2025 Mubadala Citi Open with Shuai Zhang as Siniakova did not play the North American hardcourt series this summer. The team has not lost a beat or a step.

Siniakova has 11 Grand Slam titles and two Olympic gold medals (including mixed doubles).

If they take care of their business and the draw shakes out as fans hope it does, Townsend and Siniakova could face Venus Williams and Leylah Fernandez in the quarterfinals.

Venus Williams and Leylah Fernandez

Venus Williams and Leylah Fernandez have not dropped a set in their first two matches.

Fernandez has doubles experience. She teamed with Townsend as 2023 French Open finalists.

Of course, Venus Williams is the most accomplished doubles player of the four, but that success came with her sister Serena.

She has 16 Grand Slam titles and three Olympic gold medals (including mixed doubles).

Williams and Fernandez await the winner of the Ekaterina Alexandrova and Shuai Zhang vs. Katie Boulter and Sonay Kartal.

It is dangerous to jump ahead, but it would be a tantalizing quarterfinal with two of the greatest doubles players in women’s tennis (Williams and Siniakova) and former teammates (Fernandez and Townsend) playing against each other.

In the bottom half of the draw and still alive in the competition is the second seeded Italian team of Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani who have note yet played their third round match. Paolini has been eliminated from singles, and Errani (with Vavassori) won the mixed doubles title ten days ago. Paolini and Errani are the Paris Olympics gold medalists and the 2025 French Open champions.
