Golden State Warriors star forward Jimmy Butler went crashing to the floor on Wednesday night, and his status for Game 3 against the Houston Rockets is in question. He was undercut by Amen Thompson on what appeared to be accidental contact, but Warriors fans on social media are questioning whether the act was done on purpose or not.

Warriors Fans Blaming Amen Thompson For Jimmy Butler Injury

With under three minutes remaining in the first quarter of Game 2, Butler elevated for a defensive rebound off of a missed floater by Thompson. But as the Rockets’ young guard began to battle for the loose ball, he fell forward with an appearance that he was pushed from behind.

His body completely undercut Butler’s, who landed directly on his tailbone with nothing to break his fall. After writhing in pain for a couple of minutes, Butler went to the line to take the free throw attempts that he was awarded. He made one of two before exiting the game, and never returned to action in an eventual Warriors loss.

Social media was set ablaze at the incident, with some Golden State fans calling the incident a dirty play.

There was an initial thought that the contact was completely incidental. Thompson and Draymond Green had been jostling for position for a rebound, and it appeared that the Rockets’ player may have been pushed or stumbled his way into the contact. But according to the Warriors faithful, slow motion replays and different angles show that Thompson may not have been forced into Butler’s legs as originally thought.

The Warriors are hoping that their star player can make a quick recovery. Butler has been a catalyst for the team’s turnaround this season, taking plenty of pressure off of Steph Curry and providing the team with a second legit scoring option and someone who excels in the postseason. He will undergo an MRI on Thursday, which will provide more of an update on his status going forward.

The series will shift to San Francisco with the count tied up at one game apiece. The teams will have both Thursday and Friday off from any action, with Game 3 scheduled for Saturday evening. The early betting line has the Warriors listed as the favorites for that contest with a 3.5-point spread.
