NBA insider Chris Haynes reported Friday night that both the Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks have considered putting forth trade offers to acquire Dallas Mavericks star big man Anthony Davis.
However, the Mavs reportedly aren’t interested in Golden State’s assets.
“I was told [the Warriors are] contemplating making a case to acquire Anthony Davis as well,” Haynes said. “And so with that being said, I was told that Dallas was not that fascinated with what Golden State has on its books.
“And so if the Golden State Warriors did really want to make a true play at Anthony Davis, they will likely have to acquire some more assets or involve another team.”
Warriors Expected To Pass On Anthony Davis
Despite Haynes’ report, Marc Stein of The Stein Line reported Sunday that Golden State is not “actively” engaging in trade talks with the Mavs for Davis.
“The Warriors have held a longstanding fondness for Davis and I’m told that they have indeed had some internal discussions about pursuing him, but they do not appear to be actively doing so six-ish weeks out from the deadline,” Stein wrote.
“Golden State, for starters, has no realistic pathway to acquire Davis unless it is also willing to part with Jimmy Butler or franchise fixture Draymond Green.
“I’m likewise told that Davis’ contract — with potentially two years still left on it if the 32-year-old exercises his $62.7 million player option in 2027-28 — and the injury woes he has endured since becoming a Maverick have thrust a measure of pause into Golden State’s deliberations.”
Per Spotrac, Davis is in the first season of his three-year, $175.36 million contract. Any team that trades for the five-time All-Defensive member “will have to really consider giving him an extension,” per Haynes.
Hawks Remain Interested In Davis
Meanwhile, the Hawks are still targeting Davis, according to Haynes.
“Sources tell me that the Atlanta Hawks remain very intrigued with the possibility of acquiring Anthony Davis via a trade,” Haynes said. “Now, the Hawks, out of all the shooters out there that are interested, the Hawks, they possess a pretty attractive asset package, right? That could make things interesting.
“And so with that being said, if a deal was able to materialize between the Hawks and Dallas Mavericks, I was told it would not involve Trae Young.
“Dallas would likely want expiring deals, young assets, and picks, and probably likely to include the No. 1 pick from last season, Zach Risacher.”
Through 16 appearances (all starts) this season, Davis has averaged 20.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals, 1.6 blocks, and 29.9 minutes per outing while shooting 52.1% from the field and 32.3% from deep.
Since arriving in Dallas in February as the centerpiece of the Luka Doncic trade, Davis has dealt with several muscle strains that have limited him to a total of just 25 regular-season games.
Davis, who was recovering from an abdominal strain at the time of the trade, suffered a related adductor strain in his Mavs debut. That injury sidelined him for 18 games.
He also missed 14 games earlier this campaign due to a left calf strain.
