New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore.

Surprisingly, the Washington Commanders are first in the NFC East with a 7-2 record.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels has been sensational in his rookie campaign. Daniels is a big reason why the Commanders rank third in the league in rushing yards per game. Washington also ranks 11th in passing yards per game.

The defensive side of the ball has improved over the last six games. They have allowed 15 points or less in four of their last six games.

They just got even stronger on defense by acquiring CB Marshon Lattimore. Lattimore will help boost the secondary for the Commanders.

We discuss the Marshon Lattimore acquisition and grade the move by the Washington Commanders.

Washington Commanders Acquire CB Marshon Lattimore

In a season with low expectations, the Washington Commanders have surpassed everyone’s expectations. They are first in the NFC East with a 7-2 record.

This has made the Washington Commanders buyers at the NFL trade deadline.

The Washington Commanders acquired Marshon Lattimore and a 2025 fifth-round pick from the New Orleans Saints, while the Saints received a 2025 third-round pick, a 2025 fourth-round pick, and their 2025 sixth-round pick from the Hassan Ridgeway trade.

Grade: A

This move by the Washington Commanders receives an A grade. Marshon Lattimore is only 28 years old and has played his entire career with the New Orleans Saints.

The Washington Commanders were in need of boosting their secondary and they found a very good CB and did not give up a lot to get him.

Marshon Lattimore is a four-time Pro Bowl CB. The Commanders needed to make a move to improve their defense and did just that. They are trying to hold off the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East and need a defensive boost.

Lattimore will step in once healthy (he missed week 9 due to a hamstring injury) and become the team’s top CB.

This was a great move by the Washington Commanders as they get a very good CB while not giving up a lot of draft capital.

Does Marshon Lattimore Make The Washington Commanders The Favorites To Win The NFC East?

The Washington Commanders are 7-2 while the Philadelphia Eagles are 6-2. They are both fighting for first in the NFC East and the division is a two-team race.

They have yet to play each other, which means the Commanders and Eagles will square off twice this season.

Washington has the offense to keep up with any team in the league, but its defense needed a boost, and it got a major boost in the secondary.

The Commanders’ schedule is not daunting. They have eight games remaining and only face three teams with a winning record (the Eagles twice, the Steelers, and the Falcons). In three of those four games against teams with a winning record, the Commanders will play at home. The only road game remaining against a team with a winning record is against the Eagles, which Washington also has a home game against.

Marshon Lattimore will be a major help against an Eagles squad that has WR AJ Brown. Lattimore will be used to match up against Brown if Lattimore is healthy by week 11.

Adding Marshon Lattimore was a huge move by the Washington Commanders and it gives them an edge in the NFC East.
