10 NHL teams have never won the Stanley Cup.  Five of them are playing great hockey so far this season.  Could one of them be removed from this never won list after 2025?

Let’s take a look.

  1. Winnipeg Jets: 18-5, 1st place in Central Division, Western Conference
Of course, the Jets are the leading contender because they possess the best record in the NHL, 18-5.  Maybe Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice manifested a Jets Stanley Cup win.  After his Panthers were crowned the 2023-2024 Stanley Cup Champions, Maurice said his wish was for the Winnipeg Jets to win one.  He later clarified his statement by saying he did not necessarily mean this season.
  2. Minnesota Wild, 14-4-4, 2nd place in Central Division, Western Conference
Could the Minnesota Wild be the first Minnesota professional men’s sports team to win a championship? The Vikings and Timberwolves have not done it.  Only the WNBA’s Lynx can claim championship honors with four championship wins, the most recent in 2017.
  3. Vancouver Canucks, 11-7-3, 4th place in Pacific Division, Western Conference
The Canucks were a playoff contender last season. Without J.T. Miller who is on an indefinite leave of absence, can they continue to find ways to win?
  4. Seattle Kraken, 11-11-1, 6th place in Pacific Division, Western Conference
The Kracken has been streaky this season, running off three and four-game winning streaks and three and four-game losing streaks. Can they play consistently enough when it counts to contend for the NHL’s highest team honor?
  5. Buffalo Sabres, 11-10-1, 5th place in Atlantic Division, Eastern Conference
Buffalo sports fans want nothing more than to see the Bills and Sabres take top honors in the NFL and NHL.  The Pegula family owners of both teams would also be delighted.

These are the top five at this point in the season.  The other five are the Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Utah Hockey Club (formerly the Arizona Coyotes), Nashville Predators, and San Jose Sharks.
