On Tuesday evening, the Nuggets were on the road to face the Mavericks. Denver had lost to Dallas on December 1 and had a chance at revenge.Â
However, Cooper Flagg and Anthony Davis each scored 30+ points Tuesday to lift Dallas to a 131-130 win. During the fourth quarter of that loss, starting SF Cam Johnson suffered a knee injury. He limped off the court with help from trainers. NBA insiders announced that Johnson will have an MRI of his knee. Denver cannot afford for Johnson to be out of the lineup. The team is already missing two key starters.

In the 2025 offseason, the Denver Nuggets traded with the Brooklyn Nets. In that deal, Denver sent Micahel Porter Jr. and a 2032 first-round pick in exchange for Cam Johnson. This was a salary-shedding move by Denver’s front office. Johnson is on the books for $23 million in 2025-26 and $21 million in 2026-27. That’s compared to Michael Porter Jr. being owed $38.3 million in 2025-26 and $40.8 million next year.
Cam Johnson has been a full-time starter for Denver in 2025-26. He’s appeared in 28 of their team’s 29 games. Against the Mavs on Tuesday night, Johnson suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter. The 29-year-old needed help off the court and did not return for Denver. An NBA insider announced that Cam Johnson is set to undergo an MRI on Wednesday.

The Nuggets cannot afford to lose another starter to injury. Christian Braun and Aaron Gordon are currently out of the lineup due to injury. Braun has not played since November 12. He suffered a significant left ankle sprain. He’s missed 18 consecutive games. Additionally, Aaron Gordon is currently out due to a lingering hamstring injury. He’s played in 13 games for the Nuggets this season. Dener cannot afford to lose Cam Johnson.
Denver is already using an adjusted starting lineup. If Cam Johson missed time, head coach David Adelman would have to go even deeper into his bench. With the injuries at this point in the year, Adelman has been using a large rotation. Despite his scoring averages being down in 2025-26, Johnson still plays a valuable role for Denver. He’s been one of their best three-point shooters heading into the New Year. Fans will eagerly wait to hear if Cam Johnson is set to miss any time.
