Jesse Marsch has provided a positive injury update for Canada superstar Alphonso Davies, as the 25-year-old closes in on a return.
Alphonso Davies Injury Update
The Bayern Munich star endured a torrid time with injuries during the 2025/26 campaign, missing 21 Bundesliga matches and accumulating just 841 minutes in the German top division.
Most recently, Davies has been dealing with a muscular injury that kept him out of the final two league matches and the 25-year-old headed to the 2026 World Cup with a knock.
Many believe Canada’s 2026 World Cup hopes rely heavily on the Bayern Munich defender, as Davies is the nation’s most notable superstar alongside Jonathan David (Juventus).
The CANMNT begin their World Cup campaign with an interesting clash against Bosnia on June 12th and Jesse Marsch provided an update on Davies’ status ahead of the clash.
Marsch said: “We did an MRI with (Davies) and it showed very positive signs that he’s healing incredibly well, almost completely.
“We’re getting ready to ramp things up,” he continued. “I think that he’s showing, like he always has, a real good ability to recover from muscle injuries.
“I think that having (Davies’) private physio here has been very helpful, and the concentration on his body’s needs every day and we are really hopeful that over the next days and weeks that we can accelerate things and give him a chance to contribute here soon.”
Will Alphonso Davies Play Against Bosnia?
Canada will be hoping to bring Davies into the action as soon as possible, but the Canada vs Bosnia clash appears to have arrived too early for the 25-year-old.
According to reports, Marsch will not be able to include Davies in the matchday squad on June 12th and the defender will have to wait until Canada’s second group stage clash.
The CANMNT face Qatar on June 18th, before entering their final group stage match against Switzerland just six days later.
Marsch’s side are one of the favourites to top Group B alongside Switzerland and will be looking to put in a stellar performance as one of the competitions hosts.
Davies’ return will provide a huge boost to the Canadian roster and the 25-year-old is expected to return in time for Canada’s latter group stage matches.
