Ben Whittaker was left in a wheelchair after a bizarre finish to his fight with Liam Cameron at the Utilita Arena Birmingham.
The Sheffield man was walking Cameron into the ropes near the end of the fifth round when both fighters plunged over the top rope, WWE Royal Rumble-style, with Cameron landing on Whittaker.
Whittaker immediately indicated that his leg was injured and said he could not continue.
The referee ruled the injury accidental and sent the fight to the scorecards. The judges tallied the scores at 58-57 apiece and 58-58, resulting in a split draw.
The bizarre finish overshadowed what had been a competitive bout between the two fighters. Whittaker, a 2020 Olympic medallist, had been gaining steam in recent years, while Cameron was making a comeback after a period of personal struggles.
