Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Nicolas Tagliafico in the 2025/26 summer transfer window. They have opened talks to get the deal over the line in the coming weeks.
Tagliafico, who won the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Lionel Messi’s Argentina, became a free agent on July 1, 2025.
Dortmund are not the only team monitoring Tagliafico this summer. Everton, West Ham United, Ajax, and Sevilla are also keeping a close eye on him.
Borussia Dortmund Considering Signing Nicolas Tagliafico
Borussia Dortmund had a mediocre 2024/25 season in the Bundesliga, as they only managed to secure a fourth-place finish. Niko Kovac is determined to fare better in the upcoming season and believes a defensive reinforcement is the need of the hour.
Borussia Dortmund want to bolster the left-back position ahead of the 2025/26 season. Since Ian Maatsen’s departure last summer, they have been looking for a low-cost replacement. With Nicolas Tagliafico leaving Lyon, Dortmund now have a clear target to aim for.

According to our sources, Dortmund have opened discreet talks with Tagliafico. Between Daniel Svensson’s inexperience and Ramy Bensebaini’s lack of attacking guile, the Yellow and Black have not had a left-back capable of putting pressure on the opposition.
Tagliafico not only has big-game experience but is also great at going forward. His overlapping runs could help Karim Adeyemi break free and take the fight to the defence. To top it off, he is relentless when it comes to pressing, making him a perfect fit for Kovac’s system.
Dortmund are prepared to offer Tagliafico a two-plus-one-year deal. His salary of €3 million (£2.6 million) net is also easily attainable for Dortmund.
Tagliafico Transfer Aligns with Dortmund’s “Creative” Transfer Strategy
Borussia Dortmund have long been in Bayern Munich’s shadow. The Bavarians have deep pockets and an enviable trophy cabinet, making them a dream destination for most players. Thanks to their superiority, the best football betting sites are backing Bayern to defend their Bundesliga crown in 2025/26.
Dortmund understand that they cannot compete with Bayern head-on. They must resort to “creative” solutions to get their wins.

In late March, Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl said (via Tribuna):
“Transfer fees don’t guarantee instant impact. The market’s overheated. We have to invest in potential and get creative to compete with richer clubs.
“We need players who embrace challenges, are aggressive and don’t hide. That’s what the fans want, and we’ll be watching who’s willing to follow this path.”
Tagliafico may not be the best left-back in the market right now. However, considering his experience, quality, and most importantly, cost, there is very little risk of this deal going sideways.
Earlier this summer, Dortmund signed Jobe Bellingham in a record deal from Sunderland. If they can pull the Tagliafico move off, it would be a pretty fruitful window for the club.
