The trainer in question is GORDON ELLIOTT, who has won the Galway Plate four times in his career and needs just one more to become the winning-most handler in the history of the race.

This quartet of wins have also all come since just 2016 (four of the last nine) and at the moment is level with another top Irish trainer Dermot Weld on four wins.

However, Dermot Weld doesn’t have a runner in the race in 2025 – but Elliott has a stack.

Meaning there’s every chance the County Meath man can top the Galway Plate winner’s tree after Wednesday’s race.

Elliott’s first Galway Plate victory came in 2016 with Lord Scoundrel and has since added Clarcam (2018), Borice (2019) and Ash Tree Meadow (2023).

How Many Times Has Willie Mullins Won The Galway Plate?

In contrast to the excellent Galway Plate record of Gordon Elliott – by the Willie Mullins high standards, it’s slightly surprising he’s only won the race twice.

The first Willie Mullins win came in 2011 with Blazing Tempo and his most recent in 2021 with Royal Rendezvous.

Both of these winners were also ridden by Paul Townend and the pair try again on Wednesday – this time with Adamantly Chosen.

This eight-year-old was 11th in the Topham Chase at Aintree in April and third last time at Punchestown in the Grade 3 Colm Quinn BMW Handicap Chase.

There are also three other Willie Mullins Galway Plate runners – Zenta, who is another for owner JP McManus.

Plus, Scottish Grand National 7th Olympic Man and reserve Arctic Fly.

The other big Irish trainer to have a good record in the race is Henry De Bromhead – winning it twice in 2015 and 2017.

This horse was a nice winner at Kilbeggan last time out in a Beginners Chase and could be more to come now back into a handicap.
