Shergar Cup Returns to Ascot On Saturday For The 24th Renewal

Ascot Shergar Cup 2025
The Ascot Shergar Cup Has Been Going Since 2000

See below the key Ascot Shergar Cup trends as we run over the key stats for ALL six races this Saturday.

These stats are based on recent runnings of each race, that highlight key patterns that have built up over the years – including the best draws, weight, ages and the top stables to follow.

The event was first staged in 2000 and running every year bar two since.

For those that don’t know the Shergar Cup format – it’s basically a horse racing team event where four teams (or three jockeys each) compete for points over the six races.

The better a horse does, means more points that jockey will win for their team.

And, of course, the team with the most points at the end of racing will win the Shergar Cup.

The teams this year are split into Asia, Europe, GB and Ireland and Rest Of The World.

In past events, the Girls team have won three of the last four Shergar Cups, but the lady riders are in the other teams this time. There is no Girls Team.

However, two female riders – Hollie Doyle and Jo Mason – make up 67% of the GB and Ireland team, so are sure to be well-fancied with the horse racing betting sites in the races they are riding in.

Plus being based in the UK, Doyle and Mason will be far more experienced riding at Ascot than most of the other overseas jockeys.

Ascot Shergar Cup Trends and Stats 2025 📈🏇

1:35 – Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Dash (Handicap) Cl2 5f ITV

  • 14/16 – Ran at Ascot before
  • 14/16 – Priced 6/1 or shorter
  • 14/16 – Didn’t win last race
  • 13/16 – 4 or more runs that season
  • 12/16 – Aged 4 or 5 years-old
  • 12/16 – Placed favourites
  • 10/16 – Won at least 3 times in their career
  • 8/16 – Winning Favourites (1 joint)
  • 6/16 – Raced at Ascot last time out
  • 3/16 – Trained by Robert Cowell (2 of the last 10)
  • 7 of the last 9 winners aged 3-5
  • 4/9 – Drawn in stall 7
  • Dream Composer was third in last two runnings

📊Trends Picks: DREAM COMPOSER has run well in this race in the past – third the last two years and has also been handed the hot stall 7. Trainer Robert Cowell has done well in the race too and his SEVEN QUESTIONS could outrun his odds also ticking one of the Shergar Cup trends here (4 year-old), having track experience and at least four runs this season.

2:10 – Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Stayers (Handicap) Cl2 2m ITV

  • 18/20 – 9/1 or shorter in the betting
  • 18/20 – Didn’t win last time out
  • 17/20 – Rated between 86-95
  • 16/20 – Run at Ascot before
  • 16/20 – Ran in the last 2 weeks
  • 13/20 – Had won between 2-5 times before (flat)
  • 12/20 – Raced at either Ascot (5) or Goodwood (7) last time out
  • 12/20 – Top 3 in the betting
  • 7/20 – Favourites
  • 2/20 – Trained by Ian Williams
  • 8 of the last 9 winners aged 5 or older
  • 5 of the last 14 winners came from stall 9
  • The last 8 winners carried 9-2 or more
  • Trainer Andrew Balding has won 2 of the last 6
  • Horses from stall 9 placed in the top three in 7 of the last 16 runnings

📊Trends Picks: Trainers Ian Williams and Andrew Balding have good records here and run Enemy (Williams), Dancing In Paris (Williams) and Spirit Mixer (Balding) Wild Waves (Balding) – but some fall down on other key trends like age and winning last time out. 17 of the last 20 were also rated 86-95, which is a plus for the 6 year-old SCOTTISH ANTHEM rated 86. While of those others mentioned DANCING IN PARIS, who also ticks the ‘running at Goodwood last time’ trend, is also feared.

2:45 – Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Challenge (Handicap) Cl3 1m4f ITV

  • 19/20 – 6 or younger
  • 18/20 – Carried 9-2 or more in weight
  • 18/20 – Ran within the last 5 weeks
  • 17/20 – Won between 1-4 times
  • 17/20 – Officially rated between 87-94
  • 17/20 – Won over 1m3f (or further)
  • 12/20 – Aged 4 years-old
  • 10/20 – Top 3 last time out
  • 9/20 – 9/1 or bigger
  • 8/20 – Had run at Ascot previously
  • 6/20 – Won last time out
  • 2/20 – Favourites that won
  • Andrew Balding has won 2 of the last 6 runnings
  • 7 of the last 9 winners aged 4 or 5
  • 3 of the last 6 winners from stall 1 (last 2)
  • 4 of the last 18 winners came from stall 5
  • 11 of the last 18 winners came from stalls 5-8 (inc)
  • Insanity (9/2) won the race last year

📊Trends Picks: Insanity won this last year and goes again off a 5lb higher mark. 7 of the last 9 winners were aged 4 or 5, so this is a plus for many – while the last two winners came from stall 1 (Great Bedwyn). It’s not been a great race for the market leader (2/18) either – Night Breeze could go off as favourite. But this is another race that trainer Andrew Balding has done well – he runs CANDYMAN STAN, who could bounce back from two poor runs after a good start to the season.

3:20 – Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Sprint (Handicap) (Bobis Race) Cl2 6f ITV

  • 18/20 – Ran in the last 4-5 weeks
  • 18/20 – Won over 6f previously
  • 17/20 – 8/1 or shorter
  • 15/20 – Won between 2-3 times
  • 14/20 – 6/1 or shorter
  • 14/20 – Placed favourites
  • 14/20 – Officially rated between 86-95
  • 14/20 – Top three in the betting market
  • 7/20 – Won last race
  • 7/20 – Favourites
  • 4 of the last 5 favourites won
  • 4 of the last 5 winners drawn between 9-12 (inc)
  • 7 of the last 17 winners came from stalls 5-8 (inc)
  • 4 of the last 9 winners came from stall 12

📊Trends Picks: This has been a good race for the favourites – with four of the last five winning – Prince Of India could be the market leader. 80% of the last five winners were drawn between 9-12 too and stall 12 has been hot (4 wins in 9) – so this is a plus for DYONISOS. The winner has tended to come from a horse priced 8/1 or less though – so MARCHOGION catches the eye – who is yet another for trainer Andrew Balding.

3:55 – Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Classic (Handicap) (Bobis Race) Cl3 1m4f – ITV

  • 13/15 – Carried 9-2 or more in weight
  • 12/15 – Officially rated between 84-92
  • 12/15 – 8/1 or shorter in the betting
  • 12/15 – Winning distance of 1 length or less
  • 11/15 – Won over 1m2f or further
  • 7/15 – Placed favourites
  • 4/15 – Raced at Ascot last time out
  • 4/15 – Trained by the Johnston yard (2 of the last 5)
  • 4/15 – Favourites
  • 10 of the last 15 winners came from stalls 5, 7 or 8
  • 10 of the last 11 winners came between stalls 5 and 9
  • 8 of the last 9 winners between stalls 6-9

📊Trends Picks: This has been a good race for the Johnston yard with two wins in the last five – they run MDAWI. While stalls 6-9 have done well too – so Hackney Diamonds, Montpellier Green, and Prince Of The Seas tick this. But two other yards that have won this recently are William Haggas and Andrew Balding and they run likely favourites Tenability and Topteam. In a race that looks a three-way shootout between the top trio in the betting.

4:30 – Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Mile (Handicap) Cl2 1m ITV

  • 19/20 – Aged 4 or 5 years-old
  • 19/20 – Rated between 92-100
  • 19/20 – Won over at least a mile
  • 19/20 – Didn’t win last time out
  • 19/20 – Carried 9-2 or more
  • 18/20 – Priced 8/1 or shorter
  • 18/20 – Ran in the last 5 weeks
  • 17/20 – Top 3 in the betting
  • 15/20 – Won between 2-4 times
  • 15/20 – Favourites finished in the top 4
  • 12/20 – Raced at Ascot before
  • 5/20 – Raced at Goodwood last time out
  • 6/20 –Favourites
  • Only 3 of the last 18 winners came from stall 1
  • 4 of the last 8 winners came from stall 12
  • 14 or the last 18 winners 6/1 or shorter
  • 5 of the last 6 winners between stalls 9-12 (inc)

📊Trends Picks: The stats here tell us 50% of the last eight winners came from stall 12 – which is a plus for Two Tempting, but at 6 he falls down on the age stat. Five of the last six winners came between gates 9-12 though, which is a thumbs up for Brave Emperor, Arisaig and Royal Ascot scorer Miss Information. With that in mind, the 4 year-old ARISAG, who was well at Sandown last time, is interesting. While recent Goodwood silver EBT’S GUARD also ticks another of these Shergar Cup trends.
