Man Utd Exit EFL Cup After Shock Defeat to Grimsby Town

Ruben Amorim fielded a strong XI for Man Utd’s League Cup clash with EFL League Two side Grimsby Town, featuring Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Amad Diallo. Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo were in midfield, whereas Harry Maguire led the defence.

The Red Devils were 1/7 with football betting sites to beat the fourth-tier side. However, it was the underdogs who got off to a rapid start.

Charles Vernam gave Grimsby Town the lead at home, firing past Andre Onana from close range in the 22nd minute. Eight minutes later, Onana spilt a cross, allowing former Man Utd academy player Tyrell Warren to slot it in from close range.

Man Utd fought back in the final 15 minutes. Bryan Mbeumo scored the first in the 75th minute before Maguire netted the leveller in the 89th minute. Since there was no extra time, the match went straight to penalties.

Clarke Oduor missed Grimsby’s third penalty, giving United the lead. Matheus Cunha could have won it for the Premier League side with the final penalty, but Christy Pym kept it out. In sudden death, 15th successful spot kicks went in between the two teams before Mbeumo hit the bar, sending Blundell Park into pandemonium.

The defeat has put even more pressure on Ruben Amorim, with SportsCasting calling Jose Mourinho the favourite to replace him.

Please play against us.

The San Marino national football team are the lowest-ranked FIFA-affiliated national football team, winning just three of more than 200 matches they have played. Their heaviest defeat came against Germany in European Qualifiers, as Die Mannschaft put 13 goals past them without conceding.

Naturally, fans found San Marino’s challenge rather amusing, with some calling it a new low for United.
