Who Has The Best Ryder Cup Record On Team Europe?

The European Ryder Cup team this year is full of insane golfing talent. Five major champions, the reigning FedEx Cup champion, one debutant and plenty of other stellar golf superstars from the continent of Europe.

Taking a look at Team Europe this year, captain Luke Donald has such a strong squad heading to New York. All but one of the 12 players on Team Europe have experienced a Ryder Cup before, with 11 having played just two years ago in Rome.

Despite being underdog with golf betting sites to lift the trophy, many people fancy Europe to go back-to-back and retain the Ryder Cup. Having almost a full squad the same as two years ago will most definitely help too.

The only player in the European squad this year who wasn’t at the 44th Ryder Cup is Rasmus Hojgaard. However, he most definitely experienced it two years ago in Rome, with his brother Nicolai having played. This year, the twin brother’s are swapping places.

Hojgaard qualified automatically for Team Europe this year, and will be hoping to kick his Ryder Cup campaign off with a historic win at Bethpage Black.

The last time Europe won the Ryder Cup in America was 13 years ago, so they will be hoping to repeat the ‘Miracle at Medinah’ this year in New York.

All 11 players who have represented Europe at the Ryder Cup before have secured at least one point for the Blue and Gold team. Scotsman Robert MacIntyre is the only player on the team that is yet to taste defeat in any type of Ryder Cup match, singles or pairs.

In terms of points percentage, this means that MacIntyre has the best record with 83%. He has played three matches in total, winning two and halving the other. However, in terms of actual points gained for Europe, he sits in eighth place in terms of the best record on Team Europe this year.

Team Europe’s Ryder Cup Records In More Detail

As previously mentioned, 11 of the 12 players in this year’s Ryder Cup team have played in a Ryder Cup before. Each of them were part of the winning team two years ago in Rome, with the exception of Rasmus Hojgaard who watched his brother Nicolai instead.

All 11 players who have represented Europe at the Ryder Cup have each secured at least one point too. Matt Fitzpatrick won his first Ryder Cup point two years ago, finally putting to bed his horrendous record at the biennial golf tournament.

Sepp Straka secured his first point two years ago in Rome on debut too, with Ludvig Aberg winning two points on debut as well. As previously mentioned, Robert MacIntyre was unbeaten on debut at Marco Simone two years ago, securing 2.5 points out of a possible three for Europe.

Former Open champion Shane Lowry also has 2.5 points to his name in Ryder Cup’s, with Viktor Hovland having secured 4.5. Tyrrell Hatton (6), Jon Rahm (7.5) and reigning FedEx Cup king Tommy Fleetwood (8) have all won multiple matches in Ryder Cup’s before.

That leaves career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy and fan-favourite Justin Rose. So, who is the top points scorer for Team Europe at this year’s Ryder Cup out of Rose and McIlroy?
