Fillies’ Mile Trends Say A Top Three Finish Last Time Is A Must-Have
Most of the 2025 Fillies’ Mile runners will fit the bill here – especially the main players,
But it’s still worth noting that ALL of the last 21 winners finished in the top three last time out (95%).
With 18 of the last 21 (86%) came here off a top two finish last time and 14 (67%) winning their most recent race.
Of the main fancies though, Godolphin’s Dance To The Music falls down on this Fillies’ Mile trend – having been only 4th in her last race in Woodbine, Canada.
Top Three Finish Last Race
- Precise
- Legacy Link
- Moon Target
- Queen Of Hawaii
- Composing
- Moments Of Joy
- Evolutionist
- Sugar Island
- Amora Queen
Look For Horses In Stalls 5+ and Gate 10
Now we know the Fillies’ Mile draw it’s certainly worth looking at in more detail.
Why?
Well, anything from gate 10 should be respected with three wins since 2015 – which might be a plus this year for Sugar Island.
The race has also seen 70% of the last 10 winners hail from stalls 5+ and there’s not been in a winner from stall 1 in the last ten runnings either.
This year’s stall 1 horse is Amora Queen.
While those drawn 5+ are Moments Of Joy, Dance To The Music, Evolutionst, Venetian Lace, Composing, Sugar Island and Queen Of Hawaii.
Trainers Joseph O’Brien, John Gosden and Aidan O’Brien Have Dominated

When it comes to trainers to note for the Fillies’ Mile – two (well three really) names leap off the page – Gosden and O’Brien.
John Gosden and Aidan O’Brien have both won the race six times and are also equal with Sir Henry Cecil.
While Joseph O’Brien has been making inroads into their haul – with two wins since 2018 (Iridessa) and in 2020 (Pretty Gorgeous).
Gosden’s first win came in 2000 with Crystal Music and his most recent Commissioning in 2022.
Aidan O’Brien’s debut success was before Gosden though – in 1998 with Sunspangled. With his most recent coming in 2023 with Ylang Ylang.
Aidan O’Brien’s Fillies’ Mile Wins
- Sunspangled (1998)
- Listen (2007)
- Together Forever (2014)
- Minding (2015)
- Rhododendron (2016)
- Ylang Ylang (2023)
John Gosden Fillies’ Mile Wins
- Crystal Music (2000)
- Playful Act (2004)
- Nannina (2005)
- Rainbow View (2008)
- Inspiral (2021)
- Commissioning (2022)
John Gosden, Aidan O’Brien and Joseph O’Brien Fillies’ Mile Runners 2025
- Precise (Aidan O’Brien)
- Legacy Link (John and Thady Gosden)
- Queen Of Hawaii (Joseph O’Brien)
- Moments Of Joy (Aidan O’Brien)
- Composing (Aidan O’Brien)
- Sugar Island (Aidan O’Brien)
Fillies’ Mile Favourites Have A Good Recent Record
Desert Flower was another winning Fillies’ Mile favourite in 2024 and in recent years the market leaders have fared well.
They’ve won 11 of the last 21 runnings (52%) and we’ve also seen a winning jolly in five of the last six years.
Precise is the expected Fillies’ Mile favourite this year (2025).
Group Winning Form Is Another Plus For Finding The Fillies’ Mile Winner
The Fillies’ Mile is a Group One contest, but having winning form at any Group level has been another positive.
Before winning this 12 months ago, Desert Flower had won the G2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster.
In fact, nine of the last 21 winners had raced at Doncaster last time, so this is worth checking too.
These horses race at Donny in their last race – Sugar Island and Venetian Lace.
But 19 of the last 21 hadn’t won already at Group One level.
So, in short we are probably looking for Group 2 and 3 winners that are stepping up in grade.
Precise won the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes last time out (watch below).
But Legacy Link is yet to race in a Group race – let along win one.
She’s stepping up from winning a Novice Stakes race at Haydock last time out.
These horses have won Group 2 or Group 3 races only – Dance To The Music, Queen Of Hawaii and Composing.
Note Horses With Two Or Three Previous Wins
The final of the key Fillies’ Mile trends to look out for is wins.
This is because 81% (17 of the last 21) winners had won two or three times in the past.
Which could be deemed another negative for the one-time winner Legacy Link, who is one of the fancies runners.
These are the horses with between two-three wins, Precise, Dance To The Music, Queen Of Hawaii, Moon Target, Composing, and Amora Queen.

Who Won The Fillies’ Mile Last Year (2024)?
12 months ago, the Godolphin-owned DESERT FLOWER powered home to win the Fillies’ Mile by 5 1/2 lengths (watch below).
As a result, she shot to head of the 1,000 Guineas market for 2025 and didn’t let her backers down in their race either – winning by a length earlier this season.
She became the first bet365 Mile winner to follow-up in the English Classic since Minding won both races in 2015 and 2016.
Desert Flower was also giving trainer Charlie Appleby and jockey William Buick their first Fillies Mile wins.
But it wasn’t the first for Godolphin – the ‘boys in blue’ have mopped up four successes in the race, including three on the bounce between 2010 and 2012 with White Moonstone, Lyric Of Light and Certify.
