Kylian Mbappe’s France will be eyeing their third consecutive win in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying when they host Azerbaijan at the Parc des Princes on Friday night.
France are sitting at the top of Group D after winning their first two matches. Azerbaijan, meanwhile, are toiling in fourth place with only a solitary point to their name. Iceland currently occupy the play-off spot after scoring three points from their two qualifiers.
France vs Azerbaijan Meet in Third World Cup Qualifier
Didier Deschamps has taken France to two consecutive FIFA World Cup finals, with Les Bleus winning it in 2018 and narrowly missing out in 2022. With reports suggesting that he would step down from his role as France manager after the 2026 World Cup, Deschamps would love to oversee another trophy run.
Despite not being at their best, France have kicked off their qualifying campaign with back-to-back wins. In their first World Cup qualifier, they secured a 2-0 win over Ukraine, but they were fortunate to come away with a clean sheet.
In their second match, Deschamps’ men actually had to come from behind to secure the win.

Iceland took a shock lead through Andri Gudjohnsen in the 21st minute. Kylian Mbappe scored the equaliser from the penalty spot in the first half (45′) before Bradley Barcola netted the winner in the 62nd minute. Deschamps, who will reportedly step down
Azerbaijan, who are 124th in FIFA World Rankings, got off to a demoralising start to their World Cup journey. On Matchday 1, they succumbed to a devastating 5-0 defeat to Iceland. In the next game, Azerbaijan held Ukraine to a 1-1 draw.
Aykhan Abbasov’s side face their toughest challenge yet on Friday night, and they will need to produce something extra special to avoid an embarrassment in Paris.
France vs Azerbaijan Betting Tips
- France (Home) to Win – 1/33
- Michael Olise Over 0.5 Assists – 6/5
- Kylian Mbappe Over 4.5 Shots – 27/100
France to Win
Despite having some of the best players in the world, Didier Deschamps’ France could not dominate either of the Group D opponents. On Friday, they will meet the weakest team in the group, it would be surprising if they did not go for a big win.
We expect France to deliver a statement at the Parc des Princes and blow Azerbaijan out of the water.
Michael Olise to Provide Over 0.5 Assists
Bayern Munich star Michael Olise has been on a dream run this season, scoring eight goals and providing eight assists in 15 games across competitions, including the Club World Cup.
In the last Champions League outing, the former Crystal Palace star claimed two assists and scored a goal. With an in-form Kylian Mbappe making runs in front, Olise should get plenty of opportunities to secure an assist.
Kylian Mbappe to Take Over 4.5 Shots
French superstar Kylian Mbappe has been in breathtaking form this season, scoring 14 goals in 10 matches for Real Madrid in all competitions. He also scored in both of France’s World Cup qualifiers in March.
🚨🇫🇷 Kylian Mbappé on his physical conditions: “My ankle? I want to play. The coach wants me to play. I don't think there's a major problem. I feel fine”.

He averages 5.14 shots in LaLiga and a whopping 9.47 shots in the UEFA Champions League. He averaged 4.5 shots in the two World Cup qualifiers he played in September.
Considering how trigger-happy he has been lately, we expect Mbappe to take at least five shots against Azerbaijan.
