Andy Newton's Newmarket Horse Racing Tips

More ITV Racing action this weekend, including at horse racing’s flat HQ – so Andy Newton is back with his Newmarket horse racing tips and 1-2-3 best bets for the main races, with a well-backed selection for the main betting contest – the Cesarewitch Handicap.

ITV Horse Racing Tips: Five LIVE Races At Newmarket On Saturday

There are five more races being shown LIVE on the ITV Racing schedule this Saturday from day two of the Dubai Future Champions Festival at Newmarket.

We get going with the Darley Stakes (1:15pm) – a race trainer John Gosden has won twice in the last four years and has another strong chance with Damysus.

On the day we’ve also got the Zetland Stakes (1:50pm) and Autumn Stakes (2:25pm) – but the big Group One contest is the Dewhurst Stakes (3:00pm).

This race has produced many top winners over the years, including most recently the 2024 Epsom Derby hero City Of Troy.

It looks another crackerjack of a race this year too – With top juveniles Gstaad, Zavateri and Distant Storm all locking horns.

Away from these 2 year-old races at Newmarket, the big betting race on the day is the Cesarewitch Handicap, where last year’s controversial winner Alphonse Le Grande will be looking to become the first ever ‘back-to-back’ Cesarewitch winner.

Andy Newton takes you through each of the Saturday races – giving his Newmarket horse racing tips and 1-2-3 best bets.

He also has horse racing tips daily that give FOUR best bets in a Lucky 15 – this week he fired in a 45/1 four-timer with these.

Plus, you can follow Andy on his ‘X’ handle @NewtsDailyLays where he also picks out one horse each day to take on (lay) and follow him on The Final Furlong Podcast each week.

1:15 Newmarket – Too Darn Hot Darley Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m1f ITV

Liberty Lane was a fine second in this last year and does like the track here with form figures of 2-28-1-1-2 – with his only blot (28th) in the Cambridgeshire in 2023.

He’s the joint-top rated in the field with First Conquest and is respected for connections that have had several big Saturdays in recent weeks.

The negative though is he’s still looking for a first win higher that Listed level – but is very much respected.

Gladius ran will at York in the Strensall Stakes last time (close 4th) and the form of that has been franked with the second Boiling Point winning since.

He had a busy summer this season, and a 49-day break is a plus.

But the call here is DAMYSUS, who comes from the John Gosden yard that have won this race twice in the last four years.

He ran second in the Dante Stakes back in May and even though at the time that looks ed a poor renewal, the form has been boosted since with the winner Pride Of Arras winning the Great Voltigeur.

Yes, he flopped in the Epsom Derby in June but didn’t stay that day and bounced back with a top win in France last time out over 1m2f – suggesting the trip here (1m 1f) will be perfect again.

1:50 Newmarket – Night Of Thunder Zetland Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (2yo) 1m2f ITV

Godolphin have a good record in this race, with three wins in the last four and try again with recent Newbury winner Look To The Stars.

With the Charlie Appleby team also having a stonking 35% SR with their juveniles here and jockey William Buick operating at 38% – he’s respected.

While the yard also run the maiden Del Maro with Billy Loughnane booked.

Spyce was gutsy winner at Yarmouth and looks to have more to come for the Alan King yard.

Allegresse has caught my eye too, when winning two at Kempton over a mile – I just worry a tad about the step up in trip (1m2f).

However, I was also very taken with ENDORSEMENT when he won at Tipperary last time. He looked green that day, but still got the job done and the second, fifth and sixth have all won since.

The step up in trip is a big plus for this Wootton Bassett colt, who is 33/1 for the Derby next season – and Aidan O’Brien is no stranger to winning this, having taken two of the last eight runnings.

2:25 Newmarket – Emirates Autumn Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (2yo) 1m ITV

Trainer Aidan O’Brien has only won this race once and that came last year with the soon to be retired Delacroix – so some big shoes to fill.

But they’ve got a promising sort in Straight Up, who is already 33/1 for the Derby and did it well on debut at Listowel in September.

Hanklow was an excellent second in the Flying Scotsman Stakes at Donny last time and should be involved too.

Another yard that has done well in this race is Charlie Appleby – with four wins in the last five – and they’ve a big chance of adding to that with AL ZANATI.

This Dubawi colt was a nice winner on debut on the July course here back in August and has been freshened up with two months off.

The step up to a mile is a small worry but can be expected to have learnt a lot from that first run and the second August George has since run well in the Goffs Million (2nd) too.

Two of the last three winners have come from stall 3 too, which Al Zanati has.

Of the rest, Glacius was only four lengths off Bow Echo last time at Haydock and with the winner landing the G2 Royal Lodge Stakes since, that run might not be too bad.

He could be over-priced for the Hugo Palmer team.

3:00 Newmarket – Darley Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1) Cl1 (2yo) 7f ITV

A hot renewal of this Group One that gave us City Of Troy back in 2023 and many other big names recent winners – like Chaldean (2022), Native Trail (2021), Pinatubo (2019) and Churchill (2016).

Aidan O’Brien has won the race eight times and tries again with Gstaad his main hope – but he’s been a beaten favourite the last twice and despite a very promising colt has a small bit to prove for me.

It’s also hard to knock Zavateri, who has won all four starts and is 14/1 already for the 2026 2000 Guineas.

He’s the top-rated in the field and really should be the clear favourite.

However, I worry that he’s had some hard races this season – having to dig deep in both the Lennox Stakes and National Stakes recently.

Plus, this will also be his first run here on the Rowley Mile. I love the horse and my fellow Final Furlong podcast crew are firmly with him.

I’d actually he happy if he won as it’s a great story for a great trainer (Eve Johnson Houghton).

But DISTANT STORM, just edges it for me – to give Charlie Appleby his fourth Dewhurst.

Yes, two runs ago he pulled hard and didn’t last out, when only third in a Acomb at York. But he settled better next time when running away with the Tattersalls Stakes here on the Rowley Mile over 7f.

That track experience is a plus and the time in that last win was decent too. In a tight race, his knowledge of the course just gives him the nod over two horses running here for the first time and who have both hard harder seasons.

3:40 Newmarket – Club Godolphin Cesarewitch Handicap (Heritage Handicap) Cl2 (3yo+) 2m2f ITV

With 21 runners going over 2m2f, then this race is always a tricky – which is why the Cesarewitch Handicap trends can help.

For example, the race has only seen two winners aged 10+ since 1960 and 19 of the last 23 carrying 9st 2lbs or less.

Oh, and it’s been a top race for the Irish in recent years – winning five of the last seven.

We’ve also never had a ‘back-to-back’ winner of the race, since it was first run in 1839 – so last year’s winner Alphonse Le Grande will be trying to become the first.

We could also see the 2023 winner The Shunter back for more – he’ll be rated 3lbs higher, but at the aged or 12, would be one of the oldest winners ever.

Reverend Hubert was a good winner of the trial and is only up 4lbs for that win – he represents the 2022 winning yard of Charles Byrnes.

Manxman, who was second in 2024, is back again too rated 8lbs higher.

While the Mullins Mullins yard have a good record in the race – winning three of the last seven. He’s mob-handed again with Bunting, Hipop De Loire and Winter Fog.

Take Three Cesarewitch Runners Against The Field

But the three I like here are DAWN RISING, DIVINE COMEDY and CAPRELO.

The first-named was sixth in 2024 and is back on 7lbs better terms – plus will love the quicker ground this time.

He ran well in the Irish Cesarewitch last time (5th) and Oisin Murphy has been booked to ride this Joseph O’Brien runner, who also runs in the famous JP McManus silks, who won this prize in 2023 with another runner this year – The Shunter.

Divine Comedy will 100% stay, having run well over further – she was 5th in the Ascot Stakes in June over 2m4f, which can’t be said for a lot of these.

While at a big price – the Hughie Morrison runner Caprelo catches the eye too.

The yard won this in 2016 with Sweet Selection and had the 2nd and 3rd in 2022.

This 4 year-old is yet to win in the turf (3 wins on the AW) but has only raced four times on the grass and the quicker surface will suit.

He was a nice winner last time too over 2m and the form of that has been boosted since with the third and fifth winning since.
