We’ve seven Champions Day races to look forward to on Saturday at Ascot – but one of these, the British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes, has a crazy draw stat that’s built up over the last 10 years that simply can’t be ignored.
90% Of The Last 10 Fillies & Mares Stakes Winners Drawn Between 8-12
With the Fillies & Mares Stakes being run over 1m4f, then you’d think the draw wouldn’t really come into play for this British Champions Day race.
Think again.
As over the last ten years NINE of the winners started between stalls 8-12.
While EVERY winner was drawn 6 or higher.
Meaning once we know the final runners and the all-important draw – this could be a very helpful tool in trying to find the 2025 winner.
Gates 8, 10 and 11 Have Been ‘Hot Stalls’
While the other stat that’s built-up, surrounding in the Champion Fillies & Mares Stakes, is that 70% of the last 10 winners came from ONLY THREE STALLS.
Step forward the hot gates of 8, 10 and 11.
Yes, we’ve had two winners from both stalls 8 and 10 and three from 11.
There are only ten runners in 2025 – so Danielle (8) and One Look (10) are the positives here.
- 10/10 – Drawn 6+
- 9/10 – Drawn between 8-12 (inc)
- 6/10 – Drawn between 10-12 (inc)
- 5/10 – Drawn in either 10 or 11
You can see the full 2025 Fillies & Mares Stakes draw below.

NO Winners From Gates 1, 3, 5 or 7 Since 2011
Where there’s a winner, there’s always a loser and in this case, there are four.
The other amazing stall stat attached to this race is that since 2011 there have been NO winners from gates 1, 3, 5 or 7 – Wow.
We did see two winners from gate 2 in this period – but these were back in 2013 (Seal Of Approval) and 2014 (Madame Chiang).
But since the meeting was moved to Ascot in 2011, we are still to see a winner from stalls 1, 3, 5 or 7.
Which Horses Are Drawn In Gates 1, 3, 5 or 7 This Year?
- Estrange – 1
- Ballet Slippers – 3
- Quisisana – 5
- Kalpana – 7
Just ONE Horse From Stall One Placed Since 2015
In fact, when drilling deeper – you will also see that only ONE horse from stall ONE has even hit frame.
This came in 2015, when Godolphin’s Beautiful Romance was third under jockey James Doyle.
See here the last five runnings and the top three finishes stalls.
- 2024: 11-10-6
- 2023: 10-11-9
- 2022: 10-5-12
- 2021: 8-6-3
- 2020: 9-4-6
Meaning this year’s stall 1 horse Estrange has this stat to overcome.

Kalpana Upheld The Draw Stat Again In 2024
Last year it was high draws all the way again when Kalpana did the business from stall 11.
She broke well and was always not far off the pace – to eventually show a great turn-of-foot to win by two lengths.
Kalpana will be one of four past Champions Day winners to be back in action on Saturday.
This year Kalpana will have draw 7 – where there’s not been a winner since the meeting was held at Ascot (2011).
Why Have The High Draws Dominated In The Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes?
As you can see from the above re-run of the 2024 Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes – those draw high start the race wide.
Which is why it is strange these numbers have dominated.
However, with the first section of the race run in a fairly straight line, this seems to give those drawn wide plenty of time to get into the race and move over.
As you can see from last year’s race Wingspan, who was also drawn high (10), managed to tack over and made most of the running to eventually finish second.
By doing this, this shuffles those drawn on the inside back more – and also means when they turn for home the horses either need to come wide themselves or wait for a gap on the inside rail.
But regardless of the theories as to why – the stats since 2011 clearly back-up that horses drawn 6+ and then even higher (8-12) have held sway.
Will see if this continues again in 2025 at 2:45pm on Saturday, with the race LIVE on the ITV Racing schedule.
