Plus, also highlights ONE big stable that have a surprising Cheltenham strike-rate at the Gloucestershire track – suggesting you might want to avoid their runners (especially over fences).
Cheltenham Trainer Stats: SEVEN Stables To Look Out For This Weekend
With the new jumps season just taking off, this means form for a lot of horses running at the this week’s Cheltenham Showcase meeting is thin on the ground.
Which is why looking at some Cheltenham trainer stats and strike-rates might help.
So, with this in mind – see below as we give you SEVEN yards that have had decent returns at the track in the past – including one stable that is ON FIRE at the moment.
Plus, reveal Cheltenham stats for a big yard that you might want to think twice about backing their runners over fences.

OLLY MURPHY
Okay, the Olly Murphy Cheltenham track stats are nothing to get too jiggy about – they are only 5-from-69 heading into the Showcase Meeting.
However, what you can’t ignore at the moment is their overall red-hot form.
In the last 14 days, the Murphy yard have fired in a remarkable 11 winners from 21 – giving them a stonking 52% SR (correct Thursday).
With champion jump jockey Sean Bowen responsible for steering home the bulk of the Olly Murphy winners.
Meaning anything they run at the moment has to be respected.
EVAN WILLIAMS
This Welsh-based yard has been ticking over in recent weeks with five winners in the last 14 days.
And their Cheltenham trainer stats are worthy of a second glance ahead of this weekend – especially over fences.
Williams has a 14% return over hurdles, but this increases to a much bigger 25% SR with his runners over fences (5-20).
NIGEL & WILLY TWISTON-DAVIES
The Twiston-Davies yard is often feared at these early season Cheltenham fixtures and they are certainly worth having on your radar this weekend.
Why?
The pair have been in flying form in the last few weeks – operating around the 30% strike-rate mark.
This has dipped slightly in recent days to 29% (correct from Thursday), but with the yard having plenty of Cheltenham runners on both Friday and Saturday – it will be a shock if they are not on the scoresheet at least once.
Un Sens A La Vie, who runs in the 3:00 on Friday, looks one of their best chances.
EMMA LAVELLE
Like the Olly Murphy yard – Emma Lavelle’s Cheltenham track stats are not great.
She’s just 3-from-34 with her recent runners.
However, based on her recent overall form she could easily improve these this weekend.
The Lavelle stable is one of the hottest around at the moment – with four winners from their last nine (44%) sent to post.
Classic King (1:15pm, Fri), King’s Threshold (2:20pm Sat) and Ma Shantou (2:55pm, Sat) are ones to look out for.
GAVIN CROMWELL
The Gavin Cromwell team had their biggest Cheltenham moment back in March – when landing the Gold Cup with Inothewayurthinkin at the Festival.
But this meeting has been kind to this top Irish yard too – including winning Friday’s 1:50 Novices’ Chase for the last two seasons.
They try again in that same race with Addragoole.
The yard is in overall good form too (24%) and their inclusion in this feature is backed up with a 20% SR with their chasers at the track.
CHARLES BYRNES
Another Irish stable to note this weekend is the shrewd Charles Byrnes outfit.
They’ve had several winners at this fixture in the past – and will come here with a 27% SR at the course.
This increases to 38% when only looking at their hurdlers (3-8), so maybe Run For Mahler (3:00, Fri) is one to look out for.
JOHN C McCONNELL
Again, with another Irish yard that love to send over horses to this meeting.
The McConnell camp won Friday’s opening race (1:15pm) with Seddon back in 2022 and have also landed Saturday’s 1:45 Novices’ Hurdle three times in the last five years.
They try again in that race with Minella Supreme.
Looking at their Cheltenham trainer stats in more detail – they do better with their hurdlers (19%) and are only 2-25 with their chasers.
Be Wary Of Gordon Elliott Cheltenham Runners Over Fences
Finally, trainer Gordon Elliott might have won the Cheltenham Gold Cup in the past (Don Cossack, 2016) and fired in 41 Festival winners in his career – but his stats at the track are not great.
The County Meath man has only had 17 winners at Cheltenham from his last 282 runners.
And it doesn’t make any better reading when looking at only his chasers – with just 4 winners from his last 122 (3%).
Therefore, if you are siding with Elliott runners this weekend, maybe stick to his hurdlers.
On a plus, the yard is in good order – operating at a 22% SR in the last 14 days.
