The latest Betfair Chase entries are out ahead of the first Grade One Chase of the new jumps season – with 16 horses standing their ground for the big Haydock £100k prize later this month.
These runners are headed in the betting by last year’s runner-up Grey Dawning, as this good-looking silver looks to give trainer Dan Skelton a second win in the race.
And those hoping to side with Grey Dawning might be pleased to hear about TWO 80%+ stats the 8 year-old has in his corner again.
Betfair Chase Entries Headed By Last Year’s Second Grey Dawning
Grey Dawning has been installed as the clear 11/8 Betfair Chase favourite for the Haydock race later this month.
Horse racing fans will remember him being sent off at a similar price (15/8) 12 months ago in the race too.
However, despite hitting the front in the closing stages and looking the likely winner, was overhauled by the 2023 winner Royal Pagaille, who is also expected to be back in 2025.
Since that defeat Grey Dawning was only seen three more times last season.
When pulled up in the King George on Boxing Day at Kempton Park, then winning the Listed Premier Chase at Kelso at the start of March.
And was last in action when second to Gaelic Warrior in the Aintree Bowl Chase – beaten only three lengths.
But another year older Grey Dawning is back and armed again (like last year) with TWO decent 80% stats in his favour.
Grey Dawning is still only aged 8 and has had just ten career runs over fences (4 wins).
And even though he also had these factors on this side last year – he can be expected to be a slightly wiser and stronger chaser this season.

Grey Dawning Has TWO Big 80% Betfair Chase Stats On His Side
The said stats in the corner of the 2025 Betfair Chase favourite Grey Dawning – surrounds the class of races he’s won and his age.
He’s raced just ten times over the bigger obstacles, with his biggest payday coming in the Grade One Turners Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in 2024.
With 16 of the last 20 Betfair Chase winners proven at Grade One level, this is his first plus.
Grey Dawning (like most of the main players here) has this stat in his corner.
However, his age looks the better stat. He’s still only aged 8 and this race has seen 11 of the last 13 winners aged 9 or younger.
Yes, last year we saw the 10 year-old Royale Pagaille fly the flag for the old-timers. But since 2012 there have only been two double-figure aged winners.
Meaning two of his potential main rivals – Protektorat (10) and Royale Pagaille (11) would have this against them.
And there is even more good news if you like Grey Dawning for this race that will be part of the ITV Racing schedule on Saturday 22nd November.
The Betfair Chase has been a good contest for favourites.
Since it was first run in 2005, there have been eight winning market leaders (40%).

2024 Betfair Chase Winner Royale Pagaille Back For More
This Haydock race also has a habit of seeing past winners popping up and taking the prize again.
Since the race was first run in 2005 – the Betfair Chase has seen an incredible NINE previous winners take the contest at least once more.
These repeat winners were – Kauto Star (4 wins), Silviniaco Conti (2 wins), Cue Card (3 wins) and Bristol De Mai (3 wins).
Plus, it happened again last year when the 2023 hero Royale Pagaille won his second Betfair Chase (see below).
Now aged 11, this Venetia Williams-trained chaser is back to try for a famous third win in this Haydock Grade One.
And it will be a brave punter that says he can’t land the treble.
Like a lot of horses here at Haydock – he seems to save his best for this track.
He’s won six times over fences and FIVE have come at Haydock.
The layers are making him an 11/2 shot at this stage to defend his Betfair Chase crown for a third time.
At the age of 11, Royale Pagaille will be looking to join only Kauto Star as the only winner of this age since the race was first run in 2005.

Another Betfair Chase Past Winner Could Return
The previous winners angle could also apply to another 2025 Betfair Chase runner if Protektorat also lines-up.
This is another from the Dan Skelton yard and he took this prize in 2022 when aged 7. However, finished last of four a year later in 2023.
He’s still going strong at the age of 10 and has since won the 2024 Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
While last season he slammed last weekend’s Charlie Hall Chase winner Djelo in the Fitzdares Fleur De Lys Chase at Windsor.
Protektorat will be hoping to become the first horse to win back the Betfair Chase since Bristol De Mai in 2020.
