Tommy Fleetwood Hits Career-High Third In World Rankings
After his most successful year ever on the golf course, Tommy Fleetwood has jumped to a career-high third in the latest Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
As well as being one of the most followed golfers on Instagram, Fleetwood is now officially the third best player in the world behind just Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.
The Englishman won twice in 2025, as well as achieving several top five finishes in a wide range of tournaments on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.
Fleetwood was also integral to Europe’s Ryder Cup success in September at Bethpage Black in New York, helping his team secure a historic win on US soil – the first since 2012.
Fleetwood’s Ryder Cup record improved thanks to four wins in his five matches, which saw him secure four points as Europe’s top points scorer at Bethpage to help Luke Donald and co defeat USA by a scoreline of 15-13.
Prior to moving inside the world’s top three, the highest Fleetwood had ever been ranked was fourth. Although this is a move of just one up the rankings, he can now categorically say he is the third best golfer on the planet.
The 34-year-old overtook America’s Xander Schauffele who dropped to fourth in the latest rankings. Fleetwood now sits on just over 300 points in the OWGR, some 185 points behind Northern Ireland’s McIlroy in second place.
Scheffler remains the dominant force in world golf as the best player by some distance. The four-time major champion sits on 768 points in the official rankings.
Fleetwood ended last year just inside the top 10 in ninth, but will end 2025 now as the outright third best player in world golf.

Tommy Fleetwood Enjoyed Most Successful Year Ever In 2025
The main reason for Tommy Fleetwood’s rise into the world’s top three is due to his success on the golf course this year.
The Englishman won his first ever PGA Tour tournament, reigning supreme at the Tour Championship. This also meant victory in the FedEx Cup, meaning Fleetwood joins an elite list of players to have won the coveted season-long event.
As well as winning for the first time on US soil, Fleetwood also triumphed at the DP World India Championship in October. Not to mention his countless top 10 finishes across the entire season.
The 34-year-old finished inside the top 10 on eight occasions on the PGA Tour alone, as well as a second and third place finish on the DP World Tour. All in all, 2025 was undoubtedly the best year of Fleetwood’s career.
The Team Europe Ryder Cup hero earned a career-high $22.5million+ this year alone, making this the most lucrative year of his career by almost $10m.
Fleetwood’s career-best season in 2025 puts him just outside the top 20 highest earnings golfers ever on the PGA Tour, with a similar year in 2026 likely to catapult the Englishman comfortably into the top 20.
That being said, Fleetwood didn’t perform anywhere near his best in the four major championships in 2025. Next year the Southport man will be hoping to add a first major to his ever-growing trophy cabinet, which would further exemplify why he is one of the world’s best players.
