Paddy Power World Darts Championship

As the World Darts Championship gets underway at Alexandra Palace, sponsor Paddy Power has given the crowd extra reason to give a nine-dart finish a special Christmas cheer.

The Flutter-owned bookmaker has pledged to continue with its Nine-Darter Bonus, an initiative that was introduced during last year’s tournament.

For every nine-dart finish, Paddy’s will pay out a £180,000 prize fund to be shared equally by the successful player, the Prostate Cancer UK charity and a random member of the Ally Pally crowd.

A nine-darter is the perfect leg of darts where a player hits the required score of 501 with the fewest throws possible.

Heta And Kist Hit Nine-Dart Gold

There have been just 16 nine-darters at the PDC’s World Darts Championship since the showpiece event was first held in 1994.

It was double-darting delight last year as both Dutch master Christian Kist and Aussie showman Damon Heta threw perfect legs to pocket £60,000 each.

Prostate Cancer UK benefitted from a £120,000 payout and two lucky fans had the chance to look stunned on TV as the cameras picked them out randomly from the crowd.

The UK & Ireland sportsbook will also donate £1,000 to Prostate Cancer UK for every 180 thrown at the tournament as a part of its The Even Bigger 180 campaign.

A flurry of 180s raised just over £1 million last year and World Champion Luke Littler landed 76 of them to win the Ballon d’Art trophy for scoring the most.

This year’s tournament began on December 11 with the final set for January 3, 2026.

What Is Paddy Power’s Darts Of Destiny?

Paddy Power has donated more than £2 million to Prostate Cancer UK since it first began its association with the championship in 2023.

It has just extended its title sponsorship of the World Darts Championship to 2031 and with that has launched another fan-friendly challenge.

Darts of Destiny will give one darts nut the chance to throw for glory on stage at Alexandra Palace on the day of the final.

The target is to score at least 180 with nine darts, with a £180,000 cash prize up for grabs.

To enter fans should go to the Darts of Destiny Just Giving page and donate at least £2 to Prostate Cancer UK before midnight on December 31.

A Different Type Of Checkout

Darts fans are familiar with a checkout, when a player reduces their 501 score to zero to win a leg.

Paddy’s are using their promotional powers during the event to encourage men to conduct a more serious check on their health.

Every 45 minutes a man in the UK dies from prostate cancer.

Funds raised through The Even Bigger 180 campaign will support Prostate Cancer UK’s TRANSFORM trial, testing the most accurate and effective way of diagnosing the serious disease.

Laura Kerby, Chief Executive of Prostate Cancer UK, said: “Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, and 1 in 8 of our dads, brothers, grandads and mates will get it.

“Thanks to the incredible efforts of the PDC players, backed by Paddy Power, the funds raised will go towards supporting game-changing research like our TRANSFORM trial.”
