ITV Racing Tips on Monday 29th December 2025: Lossiemouth Back In Action in December Hurdle

1:50 Newbury – Coral Mandarin Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl2 (4yo+ 0-145) 3m2f ITV4
Venetia Williams has a 24% SR with her chasers here at Newbury and runs Hold That Taught (6th last year), but needs to bounce back from being pulled-up last time.
While Paul Nicholls is just behind that return (23%) and runs course winner Brave Kingdom (NR).
But RIVERS CORNER ran well for much of the way in the London National last time over 3m 4 1/2f (3rd) and will be better dropped slightly in trip.
This Tizzard runner is also a proven course winner and the form of that last run has been franked with the winner O’Connell running second in the Welsh National since.
Course winner King’s Threshold, for the Emma Lavelle yard, can do best of the rest.
🥇 RIVERS CORNER
🥈 KING’S THRESHOLD
🥉 HOLD THAT TAUGHT
2:10 Doncaster – Sky Sports Racing Yorkshire Silver Vase Mares’ Chase (Listed Race) (GBB Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m4½f ITV4
Willie Mullins sends over both Fun Fun Fun and the top-rated SPINDLEBERRY, who heads here on a five-timer, with her most recent win in a Listed Mares Chase at Clonmel last month.
Before that she beaten Firefox by 4 1/2 lengths at Fairyhouse in April and on that form she’d be very hard to beat on what will actually be her first run outside Ireland.
Danny Mullins comes over for the ride.
The biggest danger can come from the Faye Bramley-trained Paggane, who is an improving mare that’s been very impressive in her recent wins at Carlisle and Market Rasen.
This is tougher, but she’s a great jumper and looks worth taking her chance in the higher level.
She was also a former stablemate of Spindleberry – having been trained by Mullins till June 2025.
If Spindleberry doesn’t travel over well or handle the drying ground as well – Paggane can take advantage with James Bowen riding.

🥈 PAGGANE
🥉 FUN FUN FUN
2:22 Newbury – Join Coral “Bet £10 Get £50” Handicap Hurdle Cl3 (3yo+ 0-130) 2m4½f ITV4
Jonjo and AJ O’Neill won this last year and try to follow up with another horse Don Virginia.
The Hobbs/White yard have a 24% with their hurdlers here and run Doctors Hill.
He was a good winner at Chepstow in November and wasn’t disgraced last time (3rd) at Wincanton.
He’s also been running as if he’s worth a try over this longer trip (2m 4 1/2f), which is taken to eke out more improvement.
Of the rest, the Chris Gordon yard are also in good order and their Andashan can also go well – having run on well behind the impressive Kabral Du Mathan last time at Haydock.

🥈ANDASHAN
🥉DON VIRGINIA
2:32 Leopardstown – December Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+) 2m ITV4
After what Sir Gino did in the Champion Hurdle, we’ll have to see if connections of LOSSIEMOUTH decide against taking him on in the Champion Hurdle.
She’s still 7/2 second favourite for that or 11/4 for the Mares’ Hurdle.
However, let’s forget about that for now as after impressing last time in the Morgiana at Punchestown will be hard to beat here.
This popular grey will be returning to Leopardstown for the first time since falling in the Irish Champion Hurdle back in February.
But that was the first time she’s every hit the deck.
Last year’s winner Brighterdaysahead is one the big danger for the in-form Gordon Elliott yard and is rated the same as Lossiemouth (159).
While Mullins is also running Anzadam, who looks to build back his reputation after running second in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle last time.
Lossiemouth can give Mullins a twelfth success in the December Hurdle.
🥇LOSSIEMOUTH
🥈ANZADAM
🥉BRIGHTERDAYSAHEAD
2:45 Doncaster – Download The At The Races App Handicap Hurdle Cl3 (3yo+ 0-140) 3m½f ITV4
Recent Southwell scorer Stone’s Throw is respected, as is J J Moon for the Emma Lavelle team.
But the Killahenaa/McPherson yard boast a 30% SR with their hurdlers here and this can go to the in-form ROCKOLA VOGUE.
This 6yo is on a three-timer after wins at Bangor and Ascot.
Is up 6lbs for the last of those, but connections are offsetting 3lbs of that with Nick Slatter’s claim.

🥉STONE’S THROW
3:00 Newbury – Coral Challow Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1) (GBB Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m4½f ITV4
Paul Nicholls has won the Challow Hurdle six times and he’ll be all the rage with make it seven – this time with NO DRAMAS THIS END.
This 5yo is the next big taking horse at the Ditcheat yard and so far hasn’t disappointed.
His last win was an impressive success at Sandown in the Winter Novices’ Hurdle and a repeat of that will make him hard to beat.
He’s already 6/1 for the Turners Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham, but those odds could vanish after this.
Ffos Las winner Starzand and Montemares, for Tom Lacey can follow him home.
🥇NO DRAMAS THIS END
🥈STARZAND
🥉MONTEMARES
3:15 Kelso – Chas Handicap Hurdle Cl3 (3yo+ 0-125) 2m6½f ITV4
CD winner Both Barrels is noted, as are the only other course winners Magic Wave and Eloi Du Puy.
But with the Nicky Richards camp in great order BARATABLET is the call.
He’s won his last two at Perth and Newcastle, and despite a 7lb rise for the last of those wins can land the three-timer.
Danny McMenamin rides.

3:35 Newbury – Coral “Pipped-At-The Post” Payouts Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl3 (5yo+) 2m6½f ITV4
Paul Nicholls won this last year and tries again with Captain Bellamy, who should be better for a recent fifth at Newbury behind the improving Mambonumberfive.
Guard The Moon did it well at Aintree last time and is up 7lbs here.
While the first-time blinkers are interesting for the Sean Bowen-ridden Harsh.
But NEWTON TORNADO bounced back from a fall at Cheltenham in October to win well at Bangor last time and can go in again.
He’s up 8lbs for that win and no Jamie Brace to claim 5lbs here, but King George winning rider Ben Jones takes over and with only two runs over fences should have more to come.
We also know he stays further than this 2m 6 1/2f trip (has won over 3m), which connections are sure to make full use of.
