Premier League Betting Tips On Thursday 1st January 2026: Man City Travel To Sunderland On New Year’s Day

The first Premier League games in 2026 will see FOUR matches that end the Gameweek 19 fixtures, with the others having already been played on Tuesday.

There are two at 5:30pm, that include Liverpool hosting in-form Leeds at Anfield, in a clash that generally produces plenty of goals.

They played out a thrilling 3-3 draw earlier this season and the last five H2H’s have seen a massive 25 total goals scored.

But with Leeds heading into the game unbeaten in their last five, the pressure has eased on manager Daniel Farke in the Premier League sack race betting odds market.

At 5:30pm, we also see Fulham travel across town to face Palace at Selhurst Park – the Eagles have lost just two of their last 14 vs the Cottagers.

Then at 8pm, we’ve two more matches that see Spurs boss Thomas Frank travel back to his former side Brentford.

Plus, title challengers Manchester City are on the road to Sunderland, having already beaten the Black Cats 3-0 at the Etihad just last month.

There are FOUR Thursday Premier League games on New Year’s Day to look out for.

So, if you are having a wager on Thursday’s big games – see our quick-fire stats-based Premier League betting tips, which will hopefully point you in the direction of a few winners.

Crystal Palace vs Fulham 17:30

After losing to Spurs in their last game, Palace will be hoping to get back to winning ways on New Year’s Day as Fulham head to Selhurst Park.

But looking at the league table there is basically not a lot between the sides.

Both sit on 26 points – with Palace, who have this week been linked with a possible Brennan Johnson transfer from Spurs, just edging it thanks to a two-goal better goal difference.

The sides met at Craven Cottage in December, with Palace winning that 2-1. A repeat of that score can be backed at 9/1.

The Eagles will also come into the game having won their last three vs Fulham (all comps), but the Cottagers did win this repeat clash last season 2-0.

But Palace have still only lost two of their last 14 (all comps) against their fellow Londoners.

While other Premier League betting tip options here could be both teams NOT to score – which has paid out in eight of the last 12 H2Hs.

This is on offer at Evs, if you think this trend will continue.

In short, this is a tricky game to call – so maybe the draw – looks the safest way to go at 12/5. With there also being three stalemates in the last six league meetings between the teams.

BEST BET: DRAW @ 12/5

Match Odds

  • Crystal Palace 6/5
  • Draw 12/5
  • Fulham 5/2

Liverpool vs Leeds 17:30

After fluffing their title challenge earlier in the season, Liverpool have picked up again in recent games and are now back up to fourth in the table.

But they are still 13 points off leaders Arsenal, so it’s unlikely they will be defending their Premier League title this season.

With their league goal now to finish in the top four

Next up for the Reds is to welcome Leeds to Anfield on New Year’s Day – but the Yorkshire side are in good order with no losses in five.

One of these recent games includes a thrilling 3-3 draw at Elland Road with Liverpool in December and goals, goals, goals has been the order of the day when these sides meet.

Backed up with a stonking 25 total goals in the last five H2H’s.

But Leeds fans will remember they won this repeat fixture 2-1 last season, which can be backed again at 18/1.

However, with six of the last seven meetings seeing OVER 2.5 GOALS, even at 8/13 this looks fair value.

While if you want better odds, then with four of the last seven going over 5.5 goals, then you might be tempted at 17/2 for another six-goal thriller.

BEST BET: OVER 2.5 GOALS @ 8/13

Match Odds

  • Liverpool 1/2
  • Draw 7/2
  • Leeds 9/2

Brentford vs Tottenham 20:00

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank will be heading back to his former club Brentford on New Year’s Day.

But he’s already got on over his old side, with Spurs beating Brentford 2-0 in early December.

In fact, Spurs have won their last two against the Bees 2-0.

So, at 20/1 this might appeal again in the correct score market.

The match odds heavily favour Brentford though at Evs.

But if wading in here, you might want to know that Spurs will actually head into this game unbeaten in five vs Brentford.

Oh, and they are also unbeaten away at the Bees in nine.

The last time Spurs lost on the road to Brentford was in 1948 in the old Division Two.

It’s also interesting that FOUR of the last five meetings between the sides at the Gtech Community Stadium ended in draws.

Five of the last seven H2H’s went OVER 2.5 Goals too. Which might be of interest at 10/11.

But with these sides loving playing out draws.

Then another stalemate at 5/2 looks fair value to us.

BEST BET: DRAW @ 5/2

Match Odds

  • Brentford Evs
  • Draw 5/2
  • Tottenham 5/2

Sunderland vs Manchester City 20:00

With Arsenal beating Villa in their last game, City will know anything but a win here will be damaging to their title challenge. As they are five points behind with this game in-hand.

City will start the game at 7/4 to win the league, with Arsenal the odds-on favourites at 8/13.

But City will face a Sunderland side that have surprised many this season since coming up. With the Black Cats 7th on 28 points and looking safe already.

They are also yet to lose a league game at home this season with five wins and a draw. So anyone loading on the 4/9 on a City win might have some nervy moments.

We can expect Sunderland to make life hard for the visitors in what will be one of their biggest home matches of the season.

But, that said, City did thump Sunderland 3-0 at home just under a month ago.

Plus, they will head into the game having won ALL of their last eight vs the Black Cats.

The last time Sunderland beat City was in this repeat clash in 2013.

But with 80% of the last 10 H2H’s seeing OVER 2.5 GOALS, then 4/6 on a repeat is the way we are going to play this final New Year’s Day top-flight game.

BEST BET: OVER 2.5 GOALS @ 4/6

Match Odds

  • Sunderland 15/2
  • Draw 4/1
  • Man City 4/9
