Let’s get going.

Kempton ITV Racing Tips: Lanesborough To Prove Too Hot In Lanzarote

1:30 Kempton – Coral Racing Club Join For Free Juvenile Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl3 (4yo) 2m ITV4

Trainer Alan King has won this race twice in the last seven and tries again with King Al but will need to brush up his jumping from his debut run at Sandown.

Which was the race the promising Moore runner Macktoad won, but has since been well-beaten to give that form a mixed feel.

The Harry Derham yard boast a 29% SR with their hurdlers here too and run Wertpol, who impressed last time at Taunton.

While the Jamie Snowden team had a nice winner on Friday and introduce former French flat performer Senator.

It goes without saying any moves in the market (like their Friday winner) should be noted.

But PRECIOUS MAN is taken to improve on his British debut second at Cheltenham to the useful One Horse Town.

He was only 3 3/4 length back that day but it turns out he also lost both front shoes that day. Meaning we can certainly upgrade that effort.

The 4yo has had a wind op since too and been freshened up with two months off.

He’s the clear one to beat here for the Skeltons and so can take this and kick onto better things.

Where he’s 33/1 for the Triumph and 25/1 for the Hallgarten and Novum Wines Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

KEY STATS 📈

  • Trainer Harry Derham has a 29% SR with his hurdles at Kempton
  • Alan King has won 2 of the last 7 runnings

2:05 Kempton – Coral “New” Horse Racing Bet Builder Handicap Chase Cl2 (5yo+ 0-145) 3m ITV4

Recent Sandown scorer Welcom To Cartries is the likely jolly here and he’s also the only recent winner in the field.

However, the stats tell us that’s always a good thing in this race – with ALL of the last 11 winners NOT winning last time out.

He’s up 4lbs for that win too and his only run here at Kempton was a well-beaten 4th in the Kauto Star to The Jukebox Man last season.

Former Desert Orchid winner Soul Icon will be popular too having been backed into favourite for the Badger Beer, but the jury is still out over this 3m trip for me.

Beachcomber is a CD winner to and after two runs being pulled up I’m expecting more.

But THE DOYEN CHIEF is the pick – also being a CD winner here at Kempton.

His last two runs had excuses as probably didn’t stay the longer trip at Cheltenham last time (5th) and before that fluffed the start in the Hennessy.

But three runs ago finished second to the improving Deep Cave and on that run (2lbs lower) is a big player.

2:40 Kempton – Coral Silviniaco Conti Chase (Grade 2) Cl1 (5yo+) 2m4½f ITV4

Win lose or draw, this might be one of the last times we see Edwardstone – at the age of 12 the former Arkle winner has been a top servant.

But with no wins in nine and his last coming almost two years ago in the Game Spirit Chase (2023), the King camp might pull up stumps soon – we’ll see.

That said, he did run a cracking second in the Peterborough Chase last time – only 4 3/4 lengths back.

Boombawn and Master Chewy are also course winners, plus last-named also took the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury (2024).

In short, the ratings suggest there is not much between all four here – with the top-rated KALIF DU BERLAIS on 156 and Boombawn (lowest) on 151.

But the Nicholls-trained 6yo looks to be the most progressive with only six runs over fences (three wins) and won on this card (1:30pm) back in 2024.

Yes, his recent 4th in the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter (when fav) was disappointing.

But the Nicholls yard wasn’t in great form back then and it was his first run for seven months.

While with this race being named after Siliniaco Conti, it’s a prize Nicholls loves to target each year – he’s won the pot three times since 2020.

  • 8/10 – Placed 2nd or 3rd last time out
  • 8/10 – Aged 8 or older

  • 6/10 – Winning favourites
  • 5/10 – Had won over fences at the track
  • Harry Cobden has ridden 2 of the last 4 winners
  • Trainer Paul Nicholls won the race in 2020, 2021 and 2023
  • Trainer Alan King won the race in 2015

3:17 Kempton – Coral Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle Cl2 (4yo+) 2m5f ITV4

Nicky Henderson has won the Lanzarote three times in the last 12 runnings and pins his hopes on Iberico Lord this time.

This McManus runner is down to a mark of 136, which is only 2lbs higher than his Betfair Hurdle win in 2024.

There is a small ‘Impose Toi’ feel about him – stepping up in trip here but does need to bounce back from two average efforts this season at Cheltenham.

French Ship has had a top season already – winning at Cheltenham and Newbury – but has gone up 18lbs as a result.

Is up 10lbs from his last run too, but connections are helping on that front by booking Callum Pritchard to claim 3lbs.

Are they worried about the big hike in the weights with 12st to carry here?

He’s one of the Cheltenham Festival favourites for the Coral Cup around 12/1 too, so a win here will see those odds shorten further.

The stats tell us 20 of the last 23 winners were aged 7 or younger too, which could be against quite a few.

Ike Sport, King Of The Lake, Goodwin, Captain Teague, Beat The Bat and the already mentioned Iberico Lord – leaving us with 11 of the 17 runners.

Trainer Dan Skelton has won the last two Lanzarote Hurdles too and his A Pai De Nom off 10st 6lbs could be absolutely thrown in.

He’s only had six runs (won three) and could be anything., having impressed winning at Cheltenham and Leicester recently.

But is up 8lbs from his last handicap win and no Tristan Durrell here, so really 11lbs higher and the form of that Cheltenham win has taken a few knocks since.

Lanesborough On The Right Track

So that leaves me with LANESBOROUGH, who has impressed winning his last two.

The most recent was a smooth win at Doncaster in the middle of December – which was also his first outing since February.

Yes, the handicapper has had his say with a 14lb hike, but he won by 8 1/2 lengths and the form seems okay.

Backed up with the second Williethebuilder winning well since at Kempton.

He’s also lightly-raced for a 7yo, with just seven starts and having won in soft won’t mind the ease in the ground.

Finally, that last win came over 2m 1/2f, and is, of course, up to 2m 5f here.

But has won over 2m3f in the past and there could be even more improvement now upped in distance.

I’m hoping Lanesborough can be streets ahead of the rest here.

Warwick ITV Racing Tips: L’Homme Presse The Classic Pick **ABANDONED**

L'Homme Presse
L’Homme Presse to carry 12st in the Classic Chase at Warwick

1:15 Warwick – William Hill Racing Bet Builder Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl4 (5yo+ 0-110) 2m4f ITV4

A tricky opener, with several chances.

The Christian Williams yard is going okay at the moment and run two.

Course winner Always Busy, who was going fine when falling at Worcester back in July in his last race.

Plus, they also send Rule Me In to post, who was a beaten favourite last time out at Windsor so needs to bounce back.

Ben Pauling has a fair 29% SR with his chances and his recent Fontwell second Bank On Frank could have claims in the first-time cheekpieces.

But the pick is PEPE LE MOKO.

This Jane Williams runner went down on his sword last time at Ludlow and probably should have won as got a big bumped by the eventual winner in the closing stages.

Is only up a pound for that, but the first two pulled nine lengths clear of the third that day to suggest the form is okay.

The Williams yard also boast a 33% SR with their chasers here and this 8yo is also a CD winner (Nov 23).

  • Trainer Dan Skelton has a 26% strike-rate with his chasers at the track

1:52 Warwick – William Hill Price Boosts Every Day Hampton Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 3m ITV4

Just the six runners here but a tasty little race in store with some promising sorts clashing.

Exeter winner Doyen Quest should be more at home here after probably not being suited by Sandown last time.

Expect another bold showing from the front from this Skelton runner with the yard winning the last two runnings with Grey Dawning and Galia Des Liteaux.

Moon Rocket won well at Donny in November but was disappointing in a match there last time. He could take on Doyen Quest for the lead, but has a bit to prove for me.

Laurens Bay was back in third in that Sandown race and is another that probably didn’t like the Esher track that day.

He could bounce back after showing promise at Uttoxeter the time before.

While Snowden also runs recent Exeter winner HOLLYGROVE CHA CHA – she has a bit to find at the weight.

And it’s interesting that Gavin Sheehan likes her over Laurens Bay – so she looks overpriced to me.

She also gets 12lbs from Wade Out and is rated 16lbs lower, so doesn’t actually have much to find (4lbs).

The 6yo was also a nice winner at Exeter last time out on only her second start over fences (2m 1f) and could improve for the step up in trip.

Hollygrove could just be the value call in a race that all six certainly have claims.

Will The Track Suit Wade Out?

That said, WADE OUT, is still very much respected too – who looks the sort to have more to come.

He beat the promising Wendigo (who Snowden also trains) at Worcester in October.

Then backed that up with a win at Cheltenham in November – needing every yard of the 3m1f trip that day under a power-packed Sean Bowen ride.

Yes, the Warwick track might not suit him best, with some of the fences coming thick and fast.

But we know he stays and providing he doesn’t get too far back in the first half of the race can be expected to be finishing better than the others again.

Oh, and seven of the last nine winners were 7yolds.

  • 11/16 – Aged 7 years-old (last 3)
  • 10/16 – Returned 9/4 or shorter in the betting
  • 5/16 – Winning favourites
  • 2/16 – Trained by Dan Skelton (last 2)

2:25 Warwick – William Hill Racing Each Way Extra Handicap Hurdle Cl4 (4yo+ 0-110) 2m ITV4

Sean Bowen catches the eye riding Dr Waksman for Chris Gordon, who are in fair form – but was well back at Plumpton the last day, so might need some magic from the saddle here.

But with Bowen riding the Olly Murphy runner Ukantango in his recent races and jumping ship – there could be something here.

Solider’s Leap is on a three-timer after wins at Stratford and Uttoexeter – he’s respected despite being up 11lbs this time.

I also liked the way Kelijoe won at Donny last time and a 7lb rise might looks fair – he can get involved for the Stuart Edmunds team.

Premier did us a favour the last day too at Taunton and should have more to offer with just four hurdles runs (up 8lbs).

But the small worry is the Warren Greatrex yard are coming here 0-21 with their hurdlers at this track – if you like the trainer stats.

SEA WARRIOR is the pick though, with the Tizzards boasting a 29% return with their hurdlers here.

Yes, he fell the last day at Wincanton, but it was a clipping of heels- rather that a tumble after jumping.

He was still going well at the time and before that race showed promise with a fair 5th at Exeter on only his third start.

Sea Warrior is the call to make a splash here.

2:55 Warwick – William Hill Half A Mill Classic Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 3m5f ITV4

Just the nine runners for the Classic Chase, but still a top renewal.

Most of the focus will be on the exciting Myretown, who was the easy winner of the Ultima Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last season.

But he fell in the Coral Gold Cup (Hennessy) and has now stacked it in 50% of his last four.

He’s being talked about for the National, so will be looking to win this race and that the Grand National.

Just like One For Arthur did in 2017, who was also trained by Lucinda Russell.

For me, he’s a horse I like a lot and we’ll know more after this.

He could still be thrown in off a mark of 142, but is he value? While the two falls from his last four would be the concern.

Myretown is 66/1 for the Gold Cup (needs to find a lot), 12/1 for the Ultima again and 25/1 for the National.

Classic Chase – Not The Best Race For Favourites

But it’s also not been a great race for the favourites – with only two of the last 19 winning.

So, at the prices I’m looking away from Myretown for a bit more value.

Of the rest, Mr Vango we know is a solid and reliable stayer.

He was an excellent second in the Becher last time and only up 3lbs and has only been out of the top three once over fences (eight runs).

Joyeux Machin (3lbs) and Welsh National winner VAL DANCER (6lbs), who was third in the Becher, are out of the handicap.

But the last-named has hit the top three in 10 of his 11 starts over fences and looks cracking e/w value around 10/1.

Resplendent Grey isn’t ruled out either but needs to bounce back from his poor run in the Hennessy last time (11th).

So that leaves us with the old-boy L’HOMME PRESSE.

This former Festival winner is now 11, but returned last month with a gallant second under a big weight in a Cheltenham handicap and should be much better for that run.

Yes, he’s got 12st again here and didn’t quite look at home last time.

However, he ran on well that day to suggest he’s worth a crack over this longer trip and will still come here having won 53% (eight) of his 15 starts over fences.

Hey Big Spender (11-12) and Iwilldoit (11-10) carried big weights to win this recently and I think it’s fair to say L’Homme Presse is better than those two.

For what’s been a tough season for the Venetia Williams yard so far – I’ll take L’Homme Presse, which translates to “A Man In A Hurry” to dash home.

🥇L’HOMME PRESSE
🥈MYRETOWN

🥉VAL DANCER

KEY STATS 📈

  • 14/19 – Carried 11-3 or less in weight
  • 14/19 – Aged between 7-9 years-old
  • 13/19 – Winners that came from outside the top 3 in the betting market
  • 8/19 – Had raced at Warwick (hurdles, chase, NH Flat) previously
  • 6/19 – Ran at either Cheltenham (3) or Newbury (3) in their last race
  • 11 of the last 14 Classic Chase winners aged 9 or younger
  • Just two winning favourites in the last 19 runnings

3:32 Warwick – Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle (Pertemps Hurdle Series Qualifier) (GBB Race) Cl2 (5yo+) 3m1f ITV4

Lud’or ran well behind French Ship (3rd), who could line-up in the Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton, last time and is up 3lbs.

There should be a lot more in the locker for this Tom Symonds runner, but the niggle for me is the step up in trip, with that last run coming over 2m 4 1/2f.

Does he look like he’ll stay? I’m not so sure, but is certainly a promising hurdler.

Plus, this has been another average race for the favourites, with just two of the last 18 going in.

Long Draw is capable too, but he’s not fired as many thought this season and is still 8lbs higher than his last win.

Botox Has will be of interest if there is a lot more rain – however, his last win was almost two years ago now, but does have a promising 10lb claimer riding.

The two of interest though are SPIKE JONES and TRANQUIL SEA.

They ran 3rd and 6th earlier this season at Cheltenham, but Tranquil Sea is now 9lbs better off for around four lengths.

While only in November was sent off favourite in that hurdles race Haiti Couleurs won at Newbury.

Spike Jones has since fallen at Cheltenham in the Ma Shantou race, but it was early on and seems none the worse being back out just nine days later.

Four of the last 10 winners were ridden by a claimer – which Spike Jones will be (Benjamin Macey, 7lbs).
