Andy Newton’s ITV Racing Tips From Kempton and Chepstow, Including Welsh Grand National
The ITV Racing schedule on Saturday continues with another bumper day of action with NINE races spread across Chepstow and Kempton.
At Chepstow, the Welsh Grand National (2:50pm) is the main event as last year’s runner-up Jubilee Express bids to go one place better.
While at Kempton, their two-day Christmas Meeting concludes with five live ITV races that includes the Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase (1:55pm) and Desert Orchid Handicap Chase (2:30pm).
See below Andy Newton’s ITV Racing horse racing tips as he gives his 1-2-3 best bets and also some key trends for the best of the action.
Kempton Horse Racing Tips on Saturday 27th December 2025Â

1:55 Kempton – Ladbrokes Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (GBB Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m ITV
Mirabad lowered the colours of Joyeuse last time at Exeter, but this looks harder.
While Alnilam needs to bounce back from being pulled up at Sandown last time in the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase, but this will be easier.
The third that day to Lulamba LUMP SUM was just over nine lengths behind that Henderson runner and having impressed in beating Jax Junior before that run at Uttoxeter looks the one to beat.
Mambonumberfive is the danger after two nice wins at Aintree and Newbury.
The second in his last win, Mighty Bandit, has since franked the form to win – and he also gets the handy 6lbs age allowance here.
Hansard, who won for the first time over fences at Lingfield last time, could outrun his odds too.

KEY STATS 📈
- 13/14 – 1st or 2nd last time out
- 13/14 – Returned 3/1 or shorter in the betting
- 10/14 – Aged 5 or 6 years-old
- 5/14 – Winning favourite
2:30 Kempton – Ladbrokes Desert Orchid Handicap Chase (Grade 2) (Limited Handicap Chase) (GBB Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m ITV
Ryan’s Rocket (nice winner at Newbury) and Saint Segal are respected, but it’s hard to get away from the improving THISTLE ASK here.
This Dan Skelton runner bolted-up in the Haldon Gold Cup last time at Exeter, with Saint Segal seven lengths back in second.
Yes, he’s been hiked up 14lbs for that win but is still only 3lbs worse off with Saint Segal.
He likes to get on with things from the front too and having won over further as well, then he could lead them a merry dance from the front here at Kempton.

🥈SAINT SEGAL
🥉RYAN’S ROCKET
KEY STATS 📈
- 15/18 – Aged 8 or younger
- 14/18 – Aged between 6-8 years-old
- 13/18 – Finished in the top 3 in their last race
- 13/18 – Run at the track previously
- 10/18 – Winning favourites
3:07 Kempton – Ladbrokes ‘Big Football Bet Builder Boosts’ Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl3 (4yo+ 0-135) 3m ITV
The consistent Viroflay for Paul Nicholls, who won this race in 2018, is another to consider.
The Nicky Henderson yard have a fair record and runs Bective Abbey and Wiseguy.
With the former running an improved second last time at Chepstow and is only a pound higher.
But the call is to side with last year’s winner BEACHCOMBER.
Yes, pulled up the last day at Ascot, but he was also pulled up last year before taking this.
He’s rated 7lbs higher this time, however bolted up by 10 lengths 12 months ago and you feel this would have been his big target again.
With the O’Neill yard also coming into today on a decent 25% SR with their recent runners.
Of the rest, recent Taunton winner Kap Vert is respected but is up 8lbs for that.
Montregard is on a three-timer after wins at Worcester and Ascot.
While the Skelton horse Prince Zaltar can also go well after running Docpickedme to 2 1/4 lengths the last day at Doncaster and that form looks solid.
Plus was an excellent second to the improving Kikijo the time before at Cheltenham.
🥇BEACHCOMBER
🥈PRINCE ZALTAR
🥉BECTIVE ABBEYÂ

3:37 Kempton – Ladbrokes ‘Get Rewarded With Ladbucks’ Handicap Hurdle Cl3 (3yo+ 0-140) 2m ITV
Indemnity provided Harry Cobden with his 1000th career win earlier this season and the pair team up again – but is up 9lbs here from that win.
Manuelito (non-runner) took a heavy fall the last day when in with a chance, so will need to bounce back from that.
With that race won by Trustintimes, who is up 6lbs for that success.
But WANDERING EGO seemingly ran into a smart one in Old Park Star last time at Kempton (4th) though and gets the nod.
That Hendo horse has since won easily at Cheltenham and is second favourite for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.
While the third that day Un Sens A La Vie has also won since to further boost the form.
In short, it might turn out that getting within 5 3/4 lengths of Old Park Star turns out to a very decent effort – we’ll see.
Of the rest, Williethebuilder also catches the eye with the useful Toby McCain-Mitchell booked to ride.

Chepstow Horse Racing Tips, Including Welsh Grand National Best BetsÂ
1:05 Chepstow – Coral Racing Club ‘Join For Free’ Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl4 (4yo+ 0-120) 2m ITV
A tough race to unravel.
But PASSING KATE is a proven course winner and ran second to another runner here Jour d’Evasion at Bangor last month.
She returns meeting that horse on 5lbs better terms, but connections have also booked Ned Fox to claim a further 5lbs.
So is the call to reverse that form at a course we know she’s gone well at before.
Skelton’s Storminhome is back from a long break but well found in the market too and can take third.

🥈JOUR D’ EVASION
🥉STORMINHOME
KEY STATS 📈
- Only two previous runnings
- Trainer Sam Drinkwater has a 67% SR (2-3) with his chasers at Chepstow
1:40 Chepstow – Coral Finale Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 2) (GBB Race) Cl1 (3yo) 2m ITV
The Nicky Henderson-trained Manlaga could be anything after coming over from France having won well at Auteuil back in March.
But she’s already figuring well in the Triumph Hurdle betting market and it will be interesting to see how she gets on.
However, she’s taking on some race-fit rivals here in Kaldoun Des Rocs, Tenter Le Tout and Sonic Pioneer.
Plus is also meeting the impressive Sandown winner from the Gary and Josh Moore camp – MACKTOAD.Â
It’s of course hard to know what this grey beat there, but he did it very well and travelled supremely well through the race.
The soft ground will be ideal again and with the benefit of a run he looks the safer call over the ‘could be anything’ Manlaga.

2:10 Chepstow – Join Coral ‘Bet £10 Get £50’ Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl2 (4yo+ 0-145) 2m7½f ITV
With 19 of the last 23 winners aged between 5-7, this seems against one of the fancies Keable, who is aged eight.
As are Santos Blue and Crebilly.
AMBION VIEW fits the bill though aged six and gets in here with a low weight and comes to the race off the back of two fair seconds.
He’s also up in trip here to 3m for the first time but has shown signs this step up in distance could suit.
Patriotik is starting to look well-handicapped off 121, with his last win coming off this mark at Donny last March.
But does need to bounce back from two poor runs this season.
Of the rest, Doctor Kildare ran too bad to be true the last day, when beaten at odds-on at Donny and could leave that run behind.
While Bugsie Seagull is interesting back over hurdles after seemingly not taking too well to fences the last day.
Plus Classic Concorde won this in 2023 and is back aged 12 and rated only 3lbs higher. But does have Freddie Keighley taking off a handy 7lbs.
He could outrun his odds at a big price and off a featherweight (10-1).

2:50 Chepstow – Coral Welsh Grand National Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 3m6½f ITV
With 22 runners, then cases can be made for loads.
Former Irish National winner Haiti Couleurs will be popular, as will recent Becher Chase second Mr Vango.
But they also both have big weights to lump round.
Git Maker is a proven course winner and with just 10-6 looks dangerous.
And Rock My Way was a good winner last time at Ascot in the Berkshire National and could have more to come over these staying trips.
I like the consistent O’Connell too, who is a gusty stayer in these extreme races and is only up another 4lbs for his last win.
Last Year’s Silver Could Take GoldÂ
But I think last year’s second JUBILEE EXPRESS looks primed to go well again off only 4lbs higher.
He won the Welsh National Trial last time too and we know he likes the track.
While the horse that was second in that trial was COLLECTORS ITEM and he’s now 4lbs better off for the 2 1/2 lengths.
That was also only his first run of the season so can be expected to improve and the Jonjo O’Neill yard are in much better form than recent weeks.
I also think Deafening Silence can go well for the Skelton yard. He was running on in second to Konfusion in the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle last time and looks worth a crack over longer.
