Jean-Philippe Mateta

Jean- Philippe Mateta’s late wonder-strike earned Crystal Palace a 2-2 draw away to Arsenal and you can find our player ratings below.

Mateta Stuns Arsenal To Earn Point For Crystal Palace

The Eagles left it late but talisman, Jean-Philippe Mateta, scored a superb goal from long-range to earn Crystal Palace a point at the Emirates.

Arsenal took the lead after just three minutes as Jakub Kiwior scored his first Premier League of the season with a superb header.

The visitors fought back in impressive style and were level just 20 minutes later as Eberechi Eze scored a superb volley that cannoned off the post and into the back of the net.

However, just three minutes before the half-time whistle, Leandro Trossard would score his third goal in two matches and put Arsenal ahead.

Mikel Arteta’s side looked to be heading to all three points in the second-half, until the 83rd minute as after just three minutes on the pitch Mateta would score a superb equaliser.

The Frenchman latched on to a poor pass from William Saliba and chipped the ball over Dean Henderson and off the underside of the bar to earn his side a point.

Arsenal Player Ratings

David Raya – 5.5

The Spaniard was not called upon on too many occasions in the second-half (nothing he could do with Palace’s goals) but was involved in several shaky moments in the opening half.

Myles Lewis-Skelly – 6.5

Another energetic and mature performance from the Arsenal youngster who continues to play above his years and is quickly becoming one of Mikel Arteta’s most important players.

Jakub Kiwior – 7

The Polish international put the Gunners ahead with a superb header and continues to perform in the absence of Gabriel.

William Saliba – 5

From making next-to-no mistakes to making two in three matches, William Saliba once again misplaced a pass which led to a goal.

Jurrien Timber – 7.5

Jurrien Timber managed to keep the likes of Eberechi Eze quiet during the match and his burst of pace to drive the team forward and find Leandro Trossard with an assists was crucial in Arsenal’s second goal.

Declan Rice – 7

The man of the moment, Declan Rice, was his typical energetic self and dominate the midfield for Arsenal with some superb passes and powerful runs forward.

Thomas Partey – 6

It was a relatively poor performance from the Ghanaian international, as Thomas Partey played a handful of sloppy passes – although he did progress Arsenal up the pitch well.

Martin Odegaard – 5.5

Martin Odegaard has struggled to live up to his usual standards in recent months and failed to deliver once again in an overall bleak performance.

Gabriel Martinelli – 5

It was a disappointing performance from the Brazilian international, who you think would be boosted after his goal at the Bernabeu and against Ipswich in the Premier League.

Leandro Trossard – 7

It’s been a strong couple of weeks for the Belgian star, scoring a brace against Ipswich last time out and he took his goal superbly to put Arsenal ahead.

Raheem Sterling – 3

The former Manchester City player has been one of the worst signings of the season and failed to make any sort of impact against Crystal Palace.

Substitutes

Bukayo Saka – 6

Made more of an impact than Raheem Sterling but was not his usual threat.

Ethan Nwaneri – 5

Hard to give a rating as Nwaneri only played the last five minutes of regular time.

Kieran Tierney – 5

Same can be said for Kieran Tierney.

Crystal Palace Player Ratings

Dean Henderson – 6

There was nothing Dean Henderson could do for any of the goals and was prepared when called upon, made a vital save from Bukayo Saka to keep his side in it.

Marc Guehi – 6.5

The England international was probably the best performing player from Crystal Palace’s back three and did well to cover Tyrick Mitchell when defending Arsenal’s right hand side.

Maxence Lacroix – 6

This rating would have been higher if Maxence Lacroix was not slightly at fault for Arsenal’s second, as the Frenchman was not tight enough on Leandro Trossard – but it was a composed display for the most part.

Jefferson Lerma – 5.5

Playing out of position is not easy and playing out of position in a back-three is undeniably harder, meaning Jefferson Lerma’s poor performance was to be expected.

Tyrick Mitchell – 5

It was a flat performance from Crystal Palace’s wing-back, failing to offer much going forward but Mitchell did manage to keep Raheem Sterling quiet.

Adam Wharton – 6.5

Adam Wharton is continuing to establish himself as one of the brightest prospects in England and his cross to set up Eberechi Eze’s strike highlighted his quality.

Justin Devenny – 5

The 21-year-old is beginning to cement his name as a Crystal Palace player, making 20 appearances in the league this season – however he looked slightly out of his depth today and picked up an unnecessary booking.

Daniel Muñoz – 6

The ever-reliable Daniel Munoz was a threat down the right-hand side for Crystal Palace once again and created multiple chances for the Eagles.

Eberechi Eze – 6.5

Eberechi’s first-half equaliser was a thing of beauty, volleying the ball off the post and in from the edge of the box and was a tricky customer throughout the match.

Daichi Kamada – 7

The Japanese midfielder was extremely reliable in breaking up the play for Crystal Palace and created some good chances for his side – very impressive.

Eddie Nketiah – 4.5

It was not the homecoming that Eddie Nketiah would have wanted, as he failed to deliver against his former side and will not have earned the striker spot for Palace’s upcoming FA Cup semi-final

Substitutes

Ismaila Sarr – 5.5

Failed to make a big impact but his pace clearly pushed the Gunners back-line towards their own goal.

Will Hughes – 6

A steady performance from the veteran, calmed the midfield down.

Romain Esse – 5

Came on with 10 minutes to go and was not really involved.

Jean-Philippe Mateta – 8

Once again the Frenchman came to Palace’s rescue, scoring within minutes of coming on and it was beautiful chip from distance.
