Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has confirmed that Jacob Ramsey is still âweeksâ away from making his return, while Amadou Onana is âcloseâ to a comeback in his latest injury update ahead of Southamptonâs visit on Saturday.
Unai Emery has provided an injury update on Aston Villa midfielders Jacob Ramsey and Amadou Onana, providing fans hope that the latter may return in time for Saturdayâs Premier League clash against bottom of the table Southampton.
Onana hasnât featured since Belgiumâs 1-0 defeat to Italy in the Nations League last month, having suffered a foot injury, while Ramsey has been out since being withdrawn in the defeat to Liverpool four weeks ago with a hamstring injury.
Their absences have coincided with a poor run of form for the Villans, with the East Midlanders going eight straight matches without a win across all competitions prior to their 3-1 triumph over Brentford on Wednesday.
There were also concerns over the availability of serial Yashin Trophy winner Emiliano Martinez heading into that one due to a hairline fracture in his hand, however the Argentine fought through the pain to feature for the entire 90 minutes.
Aston Villa Injury Update: Ramsey âWeeksâ Away and Onana âCloseâ
Speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Saintsâ visit on Saturday afternoon, Emery delivered the latest on injured midfield duo Ramsey and Onana.
âToday I donât know exactly which players are available tomorrow. Some are doubts, yesterday some had pain and some are tired. We are going to train now this afternoon. Tomorrow morning, only then it will be clear who will start the match.
âJacob Ramsey is still weeks to come back, he is progressing well. [Amadou] Onana is close to coming back, maybe today he can do something with us. For tomorrow, I donât know when he will be with us. Maybe Tuesday is easier.â
Unsurprising given that they are at home against relegation strugglers Southampton, Villa are heavily favoured by the UKâs best football betting sites to claim a second consecutive league victory this weekend.
