A brace from in-from Robert Lewandowski handed Barcelona a cushty first-leg advantage against Borussia Dortmund, who looked totally at sea against Hansi Flick’s side. Find full Barcelona vs Borussia Dortmund highlights below.

Robert Lewandowski Haunts Former Side Borussia Dortmund Once More

Barcelona grabbed another hatful of goals to add to their absurd tally for the season, in what proved to be a fruitful night in Catalonia.

Top scorer Robert Lewandowski — who is ageing gracefully with 40 goals at 36 years of age — was at the centre of everything positive for Barca, with his second-half goals sandwiched between Raphinha’s opener and Lamine Yamal’s cherry on top.

Raphinha’s outstretched toe to turn in Pau Cubarsi’s already-goal bound attempt bumps his total goal involvements up to 50 for the season, leading many to label him a dark horse for the Ballon D’or.

As for Borussia Dortmund, their lacklustre performance has been lambasted by some on social media as ‘not worthy’ of the club’s stature, with Barcelona scarcely breaking a sweat as they dismantled the Germans.

It was a far cry from Dortmund’s fairytale run to the final last year, and this latest 4-0 defeat all but signals the end of their campaign, barring any miraculous results in North Rhine-Westphalia.

There looked to be a lifeline at the very end, with Maximilian Beier slotting home Gio Reyna’s cutback, only to have it chalked off for offside. It concluded a strange night for the visitors, who, despite being utterly dominated all over the pitch, created plenty of opportunities themselves.

Hansi Flicks’s Barca have often shown themselves to be susceptible to conceding chances this season, even if they are dominant at the other end. Dortmund managed 13 attempts, although just three of them came close to troubling Wojciech Szczesny.

Barcelona’s gruelling end-of-season schedule continues with a trip to the capital to face Leganes this weekend, which should present an opportunity for Flick to rotate ahead of the second-leg of this tie in Germany.

However, with this quarter-final all but wrapped up, their attention turns quickly to tightening their grip on first place in Spain.

As for Dortmund, their season prospects continue to dwindle, with their Champions League campaign seemingly over, and a five-point gap between them and qualification to this competition next season.
