Managerless Blackburn Rovers host bottom of the table Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night.

Rovers announced that Valerien Ismael had departed the club by mutual consent on Monday following a run of eight matches without a win, with the club sitting in the relegation zone.

They have now begun the process of appointing a new head coach. Former Norwich and Huddersfield manager David Wagner currently tops the Blackburn next manager odds market.

Blackburn are linked with Mark Hughes too, with the Welshman currently in charge at Carlisle.

The Lancashire club head into their midweek clash in 22nd place in the table, three points adrift of West Brom in the safety positions after Saturday’s narrow 1-0 defeat by Hull at home.

Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile, remain at the bottom of the second tier table on -7 points.

That puts them a whopping 25 points adrift of safety and they have now lost seven consecutive matches across all competitions, and have failed to score a single goal in their last eight games.

Henrik Pedersen’s side were narrowly beaten 1-0 by promotion hopefuls Wrexham at the weekend, with the Dane now among the favourites in the Championship sack race betting odds.

Wednesday can take some confidence from the reverse fixture however, as they held Rovers to a 0-0 draw when they last faced off at Hillsborough in their final game of 2025.

Blackburn vs Sheffield Wednesday Bet Builder Tips

1. Andri Gudjohnson – Anytime Goalscorer

Gudjohnsen leads Blackburn’s attack and has scored seven Championship goals this season.

He consistently positions himself in dangerous areas and takes finishing opportunities early.

Why: Proven goal-scoring form and central striker role make him Blackburn’s primary scoring threat.

2. Todd Cantwell – Over 0.5 Shots on Target

Cantwell plays in an advanced midfield role and consistently arrives in shooting positions from the left side of the attack.

He tends to take opportunities to shoot rather than always looking to pass.

Why: Frequent attacking involvement makes at least one shot on target very likely.

3. Sondre Tronstad to be Shown a Card

Tronstad has been booked in three of his last seven league games and operates as Blackburn’s defensive midfielder.

He engages physically in duels and often commits tactical fouls to disrupt the opposition.

Why: High defensive workload and recent disciplinary record make a yellow card probable.

4. Charlie McNeill – Over 0.5 Shots on Target

McNeill is one of Sheffield Wednesday’s wide forwards and often drifts inside to shoot from advanced positions.

He consistently looks to test the goalkeeper rather than just create chances for teammates.

Why: Attacking positioning and shoot-first mentality make at least one shot on target likely.

5. Match Total – Over 2.5 Goals

Both Blackburn and Sheffield Wednesday have struggled in recent matches, which could lead to defensive errors and open moments.

Despite form issues, transitions and set-piece opportunities make multiple goals possible from either side.

Why: Low defensive stability from both teams and occasional attacking bursts make three or more goals plausible, even if both sides are inconsistent.
