Dan Skelton Leading The Way In 2025/26 British Jumps Trainers’ Championship Race 

Trainer DAN SKELTON broke through the £2m total prize money barrier before Christmas and thanks to a decent festive period has now banked £2,470,196 as of 12th Jan 26.

This was the fastest Skelton has reached the £2m in this career, so the signs remain good he can hold on this season and land his first British Trainers’ Championship.

Skelton is now a massive £2,191,309 ahead of Willie Mullins, who won the title last season.

With Mullins back in 31st – having won just £278,887 in Britain so far.

Paul Nicholls has leapfrogged Olly Murphy to take second.

The former champion jump trainer has now banked £1,116,823 – but is still well over £1m adrift of this former assistant Dan Skelton.

While, thanks to Iberico Lord winning last Saturday’s Lanzarote Hurdle (£52,030), Nicky Henderson is up to fifth with £905,222.

And could break through the £1m mark is his Jonbon wins Saturday’s Clarence House Chase that carried £98k for the winner.

With less horse racing cancelled expected this week, then we should see a lot more movement in the British Jumps Trainers’ Championship Table.

Can Mullins Catch Skelton In The 2025/26 British Trainers Title Race?

So, we know the Willie Mullins runners are limited at the moment in the UK.

And, as mentioned – he’s still over £2.1 m away from Skelton.

But the bookies are refusing to say he’s out of the title race – why would they?

Mullins is still only 9/2 to retain his British jump trainers championship title, with Skelton 1/9.

So can last season’s top British (even though he’s Irish) jumps trainer catch Skelton?

As we know – last year top Irish trainer Willie Mullins famously pipped Dan Skelton to the British trainers’ title.

The Closutton handler fired in just 38 winners in Britain, but in the process won a massive £3,570,991.

Ass the jumps season heads into 2026 – Mullins will, of course, be well-armed for the big Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals.

What Are The Big UK Jumps Races This Week?

With the busy Christmas period over, it’s now full steam ahead to the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Before that though, we’ve January and February to deal with – the two main months that the weather plays a big part on meetings being cancelled.

This week there will be limited jumps action with a cold snap sweeping the UK.

But if things improve by the weekend (10-11th Jan), then the ITV Racing action will see action from Wetherby, Warwick and Kempton.

With the Classic Chase (Warwick) and Lanzarote Hurdle (Kempton) two of the main races.

The British jumps season always ends with the Bet365 Jump Finale card at Sandown Park.

This fixture will be staged on Saturday 25th April 2026 and feature lucrative races like the Bet365 Gold Cup, Celebration Chase and Oaksey Chase.

Some often think it is the total number of winners that lands then jumps trainers’ championship.

However, this is not the case – as the winner is decided on total PRIZE MONEY won that season.

This includes ALL money won in a race – not just the first placed winnings.

Which is why the big yards – like last year’s winning trainer Willie Mullins – go for quality over quantity to try and come out on top.

That said, this season maybe Dan Skelton has learned from last term, as he’s not only is he targeting the big pots.

But he’s also seemingly playing a numbers game and trying to mop-up as many of the less lucrative races as he can.

Last season the 2024/25 British Trainers’ Championship received added coverage as it went to the wire.

The title developed into a two-trainer battle between Dan Skelton and Willie Mullins – that was decided on the very last meeting at Sandown on April 26th.

Heading into the last day, Skelton held a £68,483 lead, but Mullins sent over a strong team and this got him over the line.

Gaelic Warrior won the £45k Oaksey Chase and Il Etait Temps took the £99k Celebration Chase.

While adding salt into the Skelton wounds, Mullins even won the final race – which was a handicap hurdle worth another £18k.

Based in Ditcheat (Somerset), Paul Nicholls has won the British Trainers’ title a massive 14 times in his career so far.

His first championship came in the 2005/06 season, which started a run of seven straight wins.

While he was most recently champion trainer in 2022-23.

How Many Times Has Nicky Henderson Been Champion Trainer?

Nicky Henderson has been champion jumps trainer six times.

His first titles came way back in the 1985-86 and 1986-87 seasons – helped by winning the Champion Hurdle three years on the bounce between 1985 and 1987 with See You Then.

A Martin Pipe dominance followed with 15 titles between 1988 and 2005.

But the Seven Barrows man was champion trainer again in the 2012-13 season.

Nicky Henderson’s most recent title came in 2019-20 – again helped by winning the Champion Hurdle that season with Epatante.
