Daniel Dubois - Boxing

Following his fifth round stoppage defeat at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk, boxing twitter has had its say on whether or not Daniel Dubois quit in his rematch with the great Ukrainian.

Some boxing fans have branded Dubois a quitter in the past for his stoppage defeats to Joe Joyce and Usyk the first time, with some now questioning Dubois’ heart once again following his latest defeat.

Did Daniel Dubois QUIT In Oleksandr Usyk Rematch?

Being branded a quitter isn’t a nice term to have on your head, particularly in fight sports. Nowadays, it is far too easy for armchair critics to throw the ‘Q’ word at a fighter if he is unable to continue.

Daniel Dubois is a fighter who had had this label thrown at him twice in the past, and now it seems he is being branded a quitter by some boxing figures for the third time.

This comes after Oleksandr Usyk knocked the British heavyweight out in Round 5 of their undisputed world heavyweight championship contest. This was the second time Usyk had stopped Dubois, with the first coming back in August 2023 in Poland.

The first time Daniel Dubois, whose net worth has surpassed £4m, was labelled a quitter was when he lost to Joe Joyce in their all-British heavyweight clash back in November 2020.

Some respected figures in boxing circles lobbed the ‘Q’ word in Dubois’ direction on that occasion, and then again in his fight with Usyk back in August 2023. Dubois took a knee in Round 9 after going down from a jab and never got up to beat the count.

Since then, ‘Dynamite’ has been labelled a quitter by some.

Daniel Dubois Quit Claims Continue For Third Time

For the third time, Daniel Dubois, who is now a dad after his girlfriend Raissa Foxx gave birth to their child, is being labelled a quitter by some fans and even fellow fighters too.

Derek Chisora is one man who has branded Dubois a quitter following his fifth round stoppage defeat to Oleksandr Usyk at Wembley Stadium on July 19th.

“He quit. He quit, again. I don’t understand it,” Chisora said bullishly in a post-fight interview with Seconds Out.

Despite the towel coming in from Don Charles in Dubois’ corner, some respected figures in boxing circles, like Chisora, are continuing to insist that the former IBF World Heavyweight Champion was looking for a way out against the great Ukrainian.

As soon as Oleksandr Usyk, who now boasts 13 wins in world title fights with 24-0 record, upped the tempo and put the pressure on Dubois, he got to him and stopped him for the second time.

Although the knockout shot was a clubbing left hand from Usyk, this hasn’t stopped fans from questioning Dubois’ heart and desire to actually be in the boxing ring when the going gets tough.

Boxing Twitter Reacts To Daniel Dubois Quit Claims

It isn’t just heavyweight contender Derek Chisora who has labelled Daniel Dubois a quitter following his stoppage defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, who boasts a £45m net worth, at Wembley Stadium.

Former fighter Sergio Mora has also labelled Dubois the ‘Q’ word on X (formerly Twitter), as has former IBF World Super-Middleweight Champion Caleb Truax.

One man who hasn’t labelled Dubois a quitter as such but has questioned whether or not the 27-year-old really wants to fight is Dave Allen.

Fresh off the back of his demolition job of Johnny Fisher earlier this year, Allen revealed in a post-fight interview with iFLTV that he doesn’t know whether or not ‘DDD’ really wants to box.

Several other well respected figures in boxing have had their say too. Carl Froch doesn’t believe Dubois quit at all, and neither does journalist Gareth A. Davies.

Going into the fight, the best boxing betting sites had Dubois a considerable underdog, and proved to be correct following the result. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from labelling ‘Dynamite’ the ‘Q’ word all over social media.

However, plenty of fans have continued to criticise Dubois and question his heart on social media.
