David de Gea Next Club

Manchester United legend David de Gea could reportedly pick Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco as his next club, as the Spaniard enters the final month of his contract with Fiorentina.

On July 1, 2023, De Gea left Manchester United as a free agent, as then-coach Erik ten Hag preferred better ball player Andre Onana over the world-class shot-stopper. Ten Hag, however, did not last long, and De Gea took shots at him after Manchester United sacked him.

Over a year after leaving Manchester, De Gea found a home at Fiorentina, and he made the most of the opportunity.

After producing remarkable performances over the 2024-25 campaign, which saw him keep 11 clean sheets in 35 Serie A appearances, De Gea is likely to be on the move again.

AS Monaco Leading the Race to Become David de Gea’s Next Club

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes.net, Ligue 1 side Monaco have emerged as the leading candidate to sign De Gea. Monaco have been thoroughly impressed by his performances this season, with him proving time and again that he still has a lot of football left in him. De Gea is also a respected figure in the dressing room and confidently mans the back line.

With De Gea’s contract expiring on June 30, 2025, clubs have the opportunity to sign one of the most capable goalkeepers in the business without shelling out a single cent in transfer fees. Knowing the interest De Gea’s situation could generate, Monaco have established themselves as the frontrunners.

De Gea’s entourage is reportedly open to moving to Monaco and kick-starting the Premier League legend’s new chapter in the French league. Talks have progressed between the two parties in recent weeks, and if all goes according to plan, De Gea could return to the Champions League next season, wearing Monaco’s famous strips.

Fiorentina Extension Eager to Keep De Gea, Ready to Increase Wages

While Fichajes.net sees Monaco as the frontrunner in the race for De Gea, the deal is far from done. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Spaniard’s current club, Fiorentina, are also firmly in the race, and will keep trying until the end of his contract.

As per the Italian journalist, La Viola want to keep De Gea at the club until June 2028 and are prioritising the deal. The proposed long-term deal will also come with a sizable increase in salary.

According to the data from Capology, the former Spain international earns a weekly salary of £35,800 at Fiorentina. He is the ninth-highest player at the club. Germany international Robin Gosens is the highest earner at £60,048.
