After being found lame since his recent Sussex Stakes defeat at Glorious Goodwood, Field Of Gold will now miss the Group One Juddmonte International at York – and as a result, the Coral-Eclipse first and second Delacroix and Ombudsman are firming up as favourites.
Field Of Gold Ruled Out Of Juddmonte International at York
Less than a week after Field Of Gold was beaten as the red-hot 1/3 favourite in the Sussex Stakes, the John Gosden camp have revealed their star miler will miss the Juddmonte International on Wednesday 20th August at York.
Field Of Gold had been one of the big Glorious Goodwood bankers at the meeting after emphatic wins in the Irish 2000 Guineas and Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.
However, the Kingman 3 year-old colt ended a well-beaten fourth.
With Qirat winning at a massive 150/1 and became one of the biggest-priced horse racing winners ever.

After the race it came to light, he was found to be lame behind and even though connections were hoping he’d be okay for York, the race is going to come too soon.
Field Of Gold had been 8/1 in the Juddmonte market with the best horse racing betting sites – but now he’s out, the layers have firmed up both Delacroix and Ombudsman.
However, connections are not ruling him out for the season just yet. As he still holds an entry for the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 13th.
Or might give him more time and run in the QEII Stakes at Ascot on Qipco Champions Day on October 18th.
Trainer John Gosden added – “Field Of Gold’s condition has improved. There is still some residual filling in a joint and further precautionary x-rays will be done on Wednesday. Overall, we’re pleased with the improvement in his condition.”
Delacroix and Ombudsman Disputing Juddmonte Favourites Position
If the new Juddmonte International betting market is anything to go on -and with no Field Of Gold – horse racing fans will now have to decide between Delacroix and Ombudsman.
The pair fought out and epic finish in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown in early July. With the Aidan O’Brien-trained Delacroix coming out on top by a neck (watch below).
Ombudsman was, however, giving away 10lbs that day to the younger Delacroix and if meeting again at York the difference will only be 7lbs.
Delacroix is just edging it as the 6/4 favourite, with Ombudsman not far behind at 5/2.
Aidan O’Brien is the most successful trainer in the Juddmonte International with seven wins. With his most recent 12 months ago with City Of Troy (watch below).
While, if Ombudsman can reverse the Sandown form – will be looking to give the ‘boys in blue’ of Godolphin their first win in the race since Ghaiyyath in 2020 and their sixth in total.
