Arsenal star Eberechi Eze has become the first player to score a hat-trick in a North London derby in the Premier League. 

Eze’s heroics secured a 4-1 victory for Arsenal over local rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

With Manchester City losing to Newcastle United on Saturday, the Gunners’ victory gave them a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Tottenham, meanwhile, slumped to ninth place in the table.

After guiding Tottenham to just one win in the last five Premier League games(D 1, L 3), the pressure has started to build on coach Thomas Frank. The former Brentford manager is now the sixth-favourite in the Premier League sack race odds market at 16/1.

Eberechi Eze Scores 35-Minute Hat-Trick in Arsenal’s Win Over Tottenham

Former Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze delivered arguably the finest performance of his Premier League career on Saturday.

Five minutes after Leandro Trossard’s opener for Arsenal (36′), Eze made it 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. Latching on to Declan Rice’s lay-off, Eze evaded two defenders before sending a right-footed effort into the left side of the Spurs goal.

Under 40 seconds into the second half, Arsenal made it 3-0. Jurrien Timber found Eze inside the box, and the Englishman coolly finished with his left foot.

Eze got his history-making hat-trick goal in the 76th minute. Trossard pulled the ball back from the edge of the Tottenham box, and the No. 10 slotted it into the bottom-right corner.

The North London derby debutant also completed a game-high three dribbles, made four recoveries, and won seven ground duels.

Until Sunday, only three players had scored a hat-trick in a competitive North London derby. Eberechi Eze has now joined the elite list, that too, on his NLD debut.

Eze is also the first Englishman to score in his first North London derby in the league since Ian Wright and Kevin Campbell in 1991.

North London Derby Hat-Tricks

Ted Drake (Arsenal) – 20 October 1934

Arsenal hero Ted Drake is the first player in history to score a hat-trick in a North London derby.

Drake’s heroics came on 20th October 1934, as Arsenal beat Tottenham 5-1 at Highbury.

Drake went on to score 139 times in 184 appearances for Arsenal, becoming the club’s fifth-highest scorer of all time.

Terry Dyson (Tottenham) – 26 August 1961

Terry Dyson is the only Tottenham player to score a hat-trick in a first-class North London derby.

Dyson produced the goods on 26th August 1961, helping the Lilywhites claim a 4-3 victory over Arsenal.

The winger played 184 league games for Tottenham between 1955 and 1965, scoring 41 times.

Alan Sunderland (Arsenal) – 23 December 1978

Before Eberechi Eze, Alan Sunderland was the last player to get a hat-trick in a North London derby.

Sunderland was on target thrice as Arsenal claimed an emphatic 5-0 win over Tottenham at White Hart Lane. Frank Stapleton and Liam Brady were also on target for the Gunners.

Sunderland, who scored the unforgettable winner in the FA Cup against Manchester United, played 206 league matches for Arsenal between. He scored 55 goals between 1977 and 1984.
