Eddie Hearn has provided a new update on Katie Taylor and her potential retirement from boxing as Croke Park dream remains up in the air.
The British boxing promoter has revealed that Taylor headlining at Croke Park is still a possibility, but it could be the only way to see the Irish boxing legend in the ring ever again.
Eddie Hearn Provides Katie Taylor Retirement Update
Eddie Hearn has revealed that Katie Taylor may well have had her last fight, unless he can deliver an iconic farewell night at Croke Park for the Irish boxing superstar.
Following Taylor’s trilogy victory over Amada Serrano on July 11 where she produced one of her finest performances at Madison Square Garden, Hearn made it clear that fans may have seen ‘KT’ in the ring for the final time.
That is unless the Matchroom Boxing chairman can deliver an unprecedented night in Dublin for Taylor, headlining Croke Park in what would almost certainly be her farewell fight.
Taylor was a pre-fight underdog with boxing betting sites to beat the Puerto Rican in their trilogy, despite having won the two previous encounters.
Hearn has provided an update on his Instagram account about Taylor’s future, revealing that a headline fight at Croke Park may be the only way fans will ever seen the 39-year-old back in the ring again.
In a Q&A on his Instagram account @eddiehearn, the British boxing promoter responded to a question asking about whether ‘KT’ will fight at Croke Park, to which Hearn replied:
“Maybe the only way to see her back.”
Hearn is essentially saying that the Bray icon might never boxing again, unless it is the monster fight at Croke Park in front of 60,000+ beloved Irish fans.
Eddie Hearn: Bowing Out At Croke Park The ‘Only Thing That May Get Her Back In The Ring’
Although there are rumours as to who Katie Taylor’s husband is, one thing we do know for sure is that she is nearing retirement. Whether that be now or next year, the end is almost near for the great Irish sporting icon.
Hearn previously stated that bowing out at Croke Park would be a dream come true for Taylor, who is yet to make a statement herself on her potentially imminent retirement.
“I think that bowing at the right time is so important. I just think that last fight would be an amazing way to bow out.
“There has been some conversations and you’ve seen the sports minister in Ireland saying they should get behind Katie Taylor at Croke Park. It’s still probably the only thing that may get her back in the ring.
“Selling out Madison Square Garden in front of a huge audience on Netflix and winning a trilogy is a great way to bow out, but so is having your last fight at Croke Park. It could be one of the only ways we see her in the ring again,” Hearn concluded in a previous interview with The Ring.
Will Katie Taylor Retire?
There has been no official confirmation from Katie Taylor herself as to whether she will retire or not.
Taylor’s record of 25-1 cements the Irish boxing legend as one of the greatest female fighters to ever live, but she may not be done just yet.
It remains to be see what Taylor’s next move if, and whether or not she hangs her gloves up for good. If she did, she could happily retire as an all-time great, having won all there is to win in multiple weight division as both an amateur and professional.
If she fights on, then that Croke Park headline dream could well come true. As Eddie Hearn alluded to, headlining Croke Park could well be the only thing that tempts ‘KT’ back to the ring.
At 39-years-old, Taylor has nothing left to prove. She is a true legend of Irish sport, not just boxing. Her legacy is assured and greatness is cemented, but she may well have something left in the tank.
Will Katie Taylor Fight At Croke Park Before She Retires?
The only thing that could lure her back into the ring could be a headline fight at Croke Park in Dublin.
Taylor has talked at length of her desire to headline at Croke Park, but it is the only thing she hasn’t done in her boxing career.
Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn has tried on countless occasions to get the Croke Park fight secured for ‘KT’, but is yet to deliver on this dream.
Through no fault of his own, Hearn has been unable to deliver the Croke Park fight for the Irish boxing superstar.
Hearn has said in the past that the GAA have priced Matchroom Boxing out of hiring the iconic Dublin venue, but he continues to try and secure the Croke Park fight for his star ‘KT’.
In short, the only thing that could bring Katie Taylor back into the ring is a Croke Park headline fight. If not, she will likely sail off into the sunset as the greatest female fighter to ever grace the ring.
