Everton hold on to beat Spurs in five goal thriller as pressure continues to mount on Ange Postecoglou
Spurs were shocked by Everton on Sunday afternoon, as the Tofffees thrashed Spurs at Goodison Park – watch the Everton vs Tottenham highlights below.
It took just 13 minutes for Everton to break through a weak Tottenham back line and the hosts were handed an early lead after a beautiful Dominic Calvert-Lewin solo goal.
Idrissa Gueye fired a pass into the box for Calvert-Lewin and with five white shirts in front of him he didn’t panic, tuning one way then the other with some quick feet, before firing a low shot into the back of the net leaving the Spurs defence puzzled in his wake.
The finish from Calvert-Lewin was just the Englishman’s third goal of the season and his first since September.
Everton were good value for their early lead and Tottenham again looked to be struggling at the back, which was something the Toffees took advantage of after half an hour.
Iliman Ndiaye was the goalscorer and his fourth Premier League goal of the season was a stunner, as Everton’s number 10 picked up the ball on the halfway line before driving all the way into the Tottenham box all by himself.
With just one man to beat Ndiaye expertly lifted the ball over Antonín Kinský in net to double the Toffees lead.
Just when it looked like it couldn’t get any worse for Spurs, Everton scored a third to give the Toffees their biggest half time lead of the season so far. Tottenham’s misery was compounded by an Archie Gray own goal, with the young defender left helpless as a clearance bounced off him and into the back of the net deep in stoppage time.
Spurs did provide some fight back in the second half, but it was very much too little too late by the time Dejan Kulusevski found the back of the net with a lovely floated strike that caught Jordan Pickford out.
Richarlison was also able to find a goal late in the day against his former club, as the Brazilian pounced at the back post to convert a quick corner and give Spurs hope in the dying seconds.
