We’ve a new 2000 Guineas favourite on our hands after the John Gosden-trained Field Of Gold landed the Craven Stakes at Newmarket in impressive fashion – prompting the bookmakers to slash his odds for the first English Classic of the 2025 season.
Could Field Of Gold Give John Gosden His FIRST 2000 Guineas Win?
With a whole host of star horses through his Newmarket stables over the years, it’s hard to believe that trainer John Gosden has NEVER won the 2000 Guineas.
However, that could change in 2025 as the veteran handler saw his good-looking grey Field Of Gold romp away with the Craven Stakes, which is run over the same course and distance as the 2000 Guineas on May 3rd.
Jockey Kieran Shoemark had the 3 year-old settled well at the back of the nine-runner field and with the horse traveling well through the race it was clear that as long as the gaps came, he’d be the one to beat.
Once Shoemark, who already had two wins on the horse, pressed the button Field Of Gold didn’t disappoint – powering away to win by an impressive 3 1/2 lengths.
With last year’s Royal Lodge winner Wimbledon Hawkeye back in second and Godolphin’s Aomori City further back in third.

The win also provided John Gosden with only his second Craven Stakes win, with his other coming way back in 1993 with Emperor Jones.
As a result the best horse racing betting sites in the UK were running for cover – slashing Field Of Gold’s odds for the 2000 Guineas to the new 3/1 favourite – with Aidan O’Brien’s Twain dislodged at the head of the market.
Trainers Aidan O’Brien (4), Andrew Balding (2) and Charlie Appleby (2) have won eight of the last ten 2000 Guineas between themselves.
