Harry Cobden Rides 1,000th Winner at Market Rasen

Former champion jump jockey Harry Cobden rode his 1,000th winner at Market Rasen on Wednesday – when steering home the Emma Lavelle-trained Indemnity.

Harry Cobden Hits Landmark 1,000 Career Wins at Market Rasen

Tuesday, 14th October will be a day jockey Harry Cobden won’t forget – as the 2023/24 champion jump jockey racked-up his 1,000th career win.

Having ridden his 999th winner in September, Cobden had been waiting over two weeks to hit the milestone but eventually got over the line at Market Rasen.

He’d already been beaten on two Emma Lavelle-trained runners in October and drew a blank at the recent three-day Chepstow Welsh Racing Festival fixture last weekend.

However, with only one booked ride on Tuesday, Cobden made no mistake on his next Lavelle ride – Indemnity – when guiding the 5 year-old to a comfortable success at the Lincolnshire track.

Harry Cobden Still Over 3,000 Winners Away From AP McCoy

The win moved Harry Cobden to 1,000 career wins but still has a staggering 3,348 winners to got to equal Sir Anthony McCoy’s record haul.

This win for Indemnity also secured a hat-trick of successes for the improving hurdler, after wins at Huntingdon and Warwick earlier this year.

On speaking to Racing TV after notching his 1,000th career win, Cobden said it had been a “long couple of weeks” – having been stuck on the 999 mark for a while.

Adding that he’s had an incredible 10 years in the saddle and paid special thanks to his main supporter Paul Nicholls, where he’s still their main stable rider.

Harry Cobden started riding in 2015/16, when named at conditional jockey to former champion trainer Paul Nicholls in Somerset – having been riding out at the Ditcheat yard since he was 13 years-old.

Cobden’s first Grade One winner came on Irving in the 2016 Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle and eight years later was crowned champion jump jockey in 2023/24 after riding 164 winners that season.

He’s since gone onto win 24 Grade One races and also landed the 2025 Scottish Grand National for top Irish trainer Willie Mullins.

And will head into the 2026 Cheltenham Festival with six winners at the meeting so far.

Harry Cobden Cheltenham Festival Winners

  • Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle – (2) Kilbricken Storm (2018), Stay Away Fay (2023)
  • Broadway Novices’ Chase – (1) Topofthegame (2019)
  • Golden Miller Novices’ Chase – (2) Stage Star (2023), Caldwell Potter (2025)
  • Pertemps Final – (1) Monmiral (2024)

Away from race riding he also runs his own farm – saying in the past that his rides help pay for the farming.

While last summer Harry Cobden was pictured at Royal Ascot with his girlfriend Olivia Johnston – supporting the flat riders.

On riding 1,000 career winners, Harry Cobden now also joins Brian Hughes, Sam Twiston-Davies, Harry Skelton and the current champion jumps rider in Britain Sean Bowen.

This win was Cobden’s 17th of the season, while 513 of these 1,000 winners came between April 2021 to the present day.

He’ll be back in action on Wednesday (15th October) to try for win number 1,001 on another Emma Lavelle runner – Loaded And Locked in the 3:28pm at Worcester.
