No trainer has won Sunday’s Arc – Europe’s richest horse race – more times than André Fabre – but just how many times has the veteran French stable won the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and do they have any runners in 2025?
André Fabre Has Won The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe EIGHT Times
Top French trainer André Fabre has won the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe a staggering eight times in recent times.
A haul that makes him the all-time winning stable in the history of this famous Longchamp race.
André Fabre’s first Arc winner came back in 1987 with a horse called Trempolino, who was ridden by Pat Eddery.
That win, in fact, provided Eddery with a remarkable treble in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe after wins in 1985 with Rainbow Quest and 1986 with Dancing Brave.
In total, Eddery won the Arc four times, having also landed the race for the first time in 1980 with Detroit.
Back to André Fabre though – and after winning the Arc for the first time in 1987, the French handler had to wait another five years to get his next.
This came in 1992 with the Thierry Jarnet-ridden Subotica.
A steady flow of winners for Fabre followed with victories in 1994 (Carnegie), 1997 (Peintre Celebre) and 1998 (Sagamix).
Fabre Recorded ‘Back-to-Back’ Arc Wins in 2005-2006
While after six more years Fabre recorded his first Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe double when Hurricane Run (2005) and Rail Link (2006) won in ‘back-to-back’ years.
This put Fabre on seven Arc wins and what followed was his longest run without a success in the big Paris race.
This was until Waldgeist ended the 12-year baron spell when successful in 2019.
Waldgeist, who mowed down the two-time Arc winner Enable in the closing stages (watch below), remains André Fabre’s most recent Arc winner heading into 2025.

The good news is – he has.
With the latest entries showing TWO Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe runners in 2025 for Fabre.
So can he make it nine wins?
SOSIE
Arc fans will remember this André Fabre-trained Sea The Stars colt being sent off favourite for the 2024 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
However, he could only manage fourth that day – beaten 4 1/4 lengths at the line behind Bluestocking (watch below).
He’s back for more aged 4 now and that means he’ll carry 6lbs more weight being a year older this time around.
The last horse to finish in the top four in the Arc and then win the following season was Sottsass. He took the bronze in 2019 and gold a year later in 2020.
Sosie has trained on well this season too – winning the Prix Ganay and Prix d’Ispahan at Longchamp and loves the Paris track.
He’s raced here seven times and won five of those – and the only time he was out of the first three at the course was in this race 12 months ago – 1-1-1-4-1-1-2.
Sosie was last seen running a close second in the Prix Foy to Japanese horse Byzantine Dream (watch below) in early September and will meet that runner again on Sunday.
The best horse racing betting sites are making him around 10/1 to go three places better than 2024.
With the Aidan O’Brien-trained Minnie Hauk one of the favourites.
CUALIFICAR
The other André Fabre Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe runner is Cualifier, who is owned by Godolphin.
The ‘boys in blue’ last won this race in 2002 with Marienbard – so will be hoping to end a 23-year dry spell in the race and in Cualificar they have a chance.
This 3 year-old colt will get the age allowance too and carry 8-13.
He was a close second in the French Derby at Chantilly earlier this season and is another that loves Longchamp – he’s currently 2-2 here.
Cualificar comes here having won the Prix Niel last time out (watch below). Beating Bay City Roller by just a short neck, but you feel had a bit more to spare at the line.
But the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe trends tell us the last horse to win the Prix Niel and take the Arc was Rail Link in 2006.
He’s around 14/1 in the market with the horse racing betting sites to five Fabre a record extending ninth Arc win.
