One fan is following Manchester City at the Club World Cup on a budget that few people would believe. This year’s revamped Club World Cup takes place in the USA, with the opening round of fixtures already underway. Thirty-two teams from across the globe are competing to be crowned the best club side on the planet. Manchester City and Chelsea are the only Premier League teams in the Club World Cup. Both qualified due to winning the UEFA Champions League in recent seasons, and the pair are among the favourites to win the tournament. At the time of writing, the best UK betting sites put City at 5/1, with Chelsea around 11/1. But while this exciting new competition is intriguing for fans of those teams involved, the cost of travelling to America to watch the Club World Cup in person is often extremely high. Not for one Manchester City fan, though. Operating on a shoestring budget, he managed to navigate his way from Manchester to New York for £149. For context, that’s cheaper than a peak-time return train to London Euston from Manchester Piccadilly. Keep reading to find out exactly how he managed this impressive display of low-cost travel. The three-hour flight from Manchester to Reykjavik set him back just £32. Then, after an eight-hour stop in Iceland, a further seven hour flight to New York cost £92. After touching down in the Big Apple, he paid £20 for a coach to the city centre. That took his total travel costs up to just £149 all together. That’s because Pep Guardiola’s side face Moroccan outfit Wydad Casablanca at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. But with the two cities only a short distance apart, a train to Philly will likely cost as little as £20. After Wednesday’s opening game, City take on Italian giants Juventus and Al Ain of Abu Dhabi in Group G.
